9-11 Ceremony Canceled Amid COVID Concerns
The traditional 9-11 ceremony in New York City is canceled this year due to the coronavirus.
Current Events
Since 2002, families of the 9/11 victims have gathered at the site of the World Trade Center disaster to read aloud the names of their loved ones who perished. New York City has also provided its own honor by shining 2 huge beams of light into the night sky in remembrance of the fallen towers. However, due to the ongoing threat of COVID-19, the city will not risk the large gathering even in honor of 9/11. They will, however, allow the Tribute in Lights (without a crowd) to proceed.
Next year, on September 11, 2021, will mark the 20th anniversary of the terrorist invasion.
