Abrams, Perdue Will Vie For Georgia Governor
Stacey Abrams has announced that she will once again run for Governor of Georgia.
Politics
The former 2018 Georgia gubernatorial candidate and civil rights/voting rights advocate announced last week that she will seek the 2022 Democratic nomination for governor and attempt to capture the victory she was so infamously cheated of in the last election.
“Regardless of the pandemic or the storms, the obstacles in our way or the forces determined to divide us, my job has been to just put my head down and keep working toward one Georgia,” Abrams said during a video announcement. “Because in the end, we are one Georgia.”
Ms. Abrams lost to current Gov. Brian Kemp by less than 1.4 percentage points in 2018, which was the closest Georgia gubernatorial election in decades. Her refusal to concede defeat due to what she called an “erosion” of voting rights and charges of invalidated votes within the African-American community made her an instant icon and a national player among Democrats.
If Abrams prevails in next year’s election, she will become the first Black governor in Georgia and the first Black woman ever elected governor in US history.

I’m running for Governor because opportunity in our state shouldn’t be determined by zip code, background or access to power. #gapol

Interestingly, a repeat showdown against Republican Gov. Kemp is not set in stone — on the GOP side, that is.
Former GOP Sen. David Perdue has announced that he will seek to dethrone Gov. Kemp and seize the Republican gubernatorial nomination for himself.
Perdue lost his US Senate seat to Sen. Jon Ossoff in early 2021 and quickly joined ranks with Donald Trump as one of his flunkies. When Gov. Kemp refused to cheat the results in Georgia and certify Trump as the (fake) winner of the state during the 2020 presidential election, ‘The Donald’ branded Kemp an enemy and vowed revenge. Now, Trump is backing Perdue as his choice for Georgia governor, setting up a nasty primary battle between Republicans within the state.

“Mr. Perdue’s decision to try to knock out a fellow Georgia Republican in 2022 is also sure to ignite an ugly — and costly — intraparty war before a general election in which the Republican nominee will likely face Stacey Abrams, the Democratic superstar whose national fame will allow her to amass a huge campaign war chest. ” – The New York Times
In 2020, Donald Trump called Kemp a “RINO governor” (meaning “Republican in name only”) and described him as “a complete and total disaster on election integrity.”
Political pundits are already predicting that the down and dirty primary battle between Gov. Kemp and David Perdue will prove golden for the superstar Stacey Abrams, who will run unopposed and have the luxury of sitting back and watching the GOP knock each other out until the 2022 general election.
If Perdue and Kemp are going to duke it out Stacy might have a good chance this time. I hope she wins it.
