Should anyone have so much power that they’re gifted absolute immunity?

Donald Trump thinks so — and he wants to be the lone American to be above the law and own absolute immunity from any and all crimes. More specifically, Trump wants the US Supreme Court to declare that he is immune from all criminal activity during his 4 years in the Oval Office. Oh, and he also wants them to grant him immunity if he returns to The White House in 2025.
In February, the US Supreme Court agreed to hear Trump’s argument that he is owed absolute immunity. Trump hopes the high court will prevent any future prosecution for his role in the federal election interference case and for urging his MAGA sycophants to attack the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. In the words of Trump, those acts occurred while he was president and should therefore be considered “official acts” that are immune to prosecution.
According to Business Insider, Trump’s legal team is claiming that if the high court were to find that former presidents do not hold “absolute immunity for criminal prosecution for official acts” then future presidents could be effectively blackmailed.
“A denial of criminal immunity would incapacitate every future President with de facto blackmail and extortion while in office, and condemn him to years of post-office trauma at the hands of political opponents,” the Trump team wrote.
If the justices rule against Trump, the current Jack Smith-led case will continue in Washington, DC. However, if the justices rule in Trump’s favor, the case will be dismissed.
The Supreme Court is expected to begin hearing oral arguments on April 22nd.
Meanwhile, a former Trump cabinet member is urging anyone who will listen to deny ‘The Donald’ absolute immunity as well as a 2nd stint inside The White House.
Former National Security Advisor John Bolton went public on Tuesday with a warning to Americans to stop Donald Trump from returning to power.
Bolton took to social media to share a 2018 viral clip from Fox News of Trump offering praise for North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un and his style of rule.
“He’s the head of a country, and I mean he’s the strong head. Don’t let anyone think anything different. He speaks and his people sit up at attention. I want my people to do the same,” Trump said in the clip.
As a caption for the clip, Bolton wrote: “Donald Trump wants Americans to treat him like North Koreans treat Kim Jung Un. Get ready…..”

According to The New York Times, Bolton is only 1 of 18 former Trump administration officials who have spoken out against ‘The Donald’ being allowed to return to power — and the dire consequences America will face if they allow him back inside the Oval Office. Those officials include former Secretaries of Defense James Mattis and Mark Esper, former National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, and former chiefs of staff John Kelly and Mick Mulvaney.
Will the US Supreme Court consider these warnings when deciding if Donald Trump should be granted absolute immunity from all criminal activity?

In fact, I would posit that the #1 reason so many Americans don’t trust “the government” anymore is because of the countless lies the NeoCons fed the news media and the American people about the so-called “weapons of mass destruction” that Saddam supposedly had.
