33-year-old Tori Hansen of Shelbyville, Tennessee put her 7-year-old adopted son on a plane — alone — intending to return him back to Russia saying she was lied to about his mental state. The single nurse sent the boy back to his homeland with a note saying his violent behavior, including a threat to burn the family’s home down, was just too much for her to take. Now, outraged Russian officials are calling for a halt to all adoptions by Americans.
Puzzling to most is why Hansen chose to put the child on a one-way international flight back to Russia, instead of simply taking him to a Child Services agency within the U.S. Her odd methods have now sparked an international incident with Moscow, which fears their children could be in danger in U.S. hands.
Russian officials say three families have already come forward asking to adopt the boy. The U.S. State Department is currently working closely with Russian officials in hopes of swiftly resolving the troubling case.
I've seen/read several reports on this story and the entire unfodling of events seems BEYOND "strange" to me!?!The adoptive mother only had the child fo 6 months(?)She reportdly told NO ONE (except her mother) that the boy was "disturbed"_despite the fact that the adoption agency has stated an agency rep visited the home in Jan. of THIS year and the mother claimed at that time that all was "going well"_(?)The adoptive grandmother later "assumed" parental repsonsibilty for the child_but again neither the mother NOR the grandmother informed the police OR the adoption agency of the "threats" they claim the child was repeatedly making(?)Then: The mother decided to put that 7 year old CHILD on an internaional flight back to Russia ALONE with "a note" basically saying "he's disturbed" rather than contact local authorities OR the Russian adotion agency_?!Maybe the child is "disturbed"_???
