AI Prompts Facial And Vocal Recognition Fears
It’s time to consider the dangers AI (artificial intelligence) poses to our faces and our voices.
Technology :
AI was cute when it began creating fun, cartoon-style avatars of our favorite photos to use on social media. However, it was not so cute when artificial intelligence began piecing together images of us to create Deep Fake videos that made us appear to be saying things we never said. Nor was it cute when artificial intelligence was maliciously used to make our voice fool others.
In case you’re unfamiliar with a Deep Fake video, check out the example below that appears to be Barack Obama, but is actually NOT him.
Sadly, AI has also been used to stage fake kidnappings, fool banks, and more.
Arizona mom Jennifer DeStefano received a late-night telephone call from her 15-year-old daughter saying she’d been kidnapped and to please fulfill the demands and help her ASAP.
“It’s my daughter’s voice crying and sobbing, um, saying, ‘mom,'” Jennifer said. “And I’m like, ‘okay, what happened?’ She’s like, ‘mom, these bad men have me help me, help me.'”
The only problem is that the voice was NOT DeStafano’s daughter, but rather artificial intelligence crafted to sound just like the daughter.
Musician and producer will.i.am is also speaking out against the dangers of AI in the music industry and how voice technology could work against artists.
“Everyone’s compromised because there are no rights or ownership to your facial math or your voice frequency,” will.i.am said. “Forget songs. Banks, people calling up your bank pretending to be you…Just family matters and wiring money.”
“You getting a FaceTime or a Zoom call and because there’s no spatial intelligence on a call, there’s nothing to authenticate if this is an AI call or a person call.”
He went on to explain that because people don’t actually own the rights to their face or voice by law, there is no legal recourse against those who misuse technology via someone’s image or sound.
Advances in technology are great — until they’re not and until they’re misused.
Are we there already?

AI vs. face, voice, and music.

First: Thank you DJ for continuing this discussion on the perils We and the world face with the creation (and use/misuse) of AI technology.
Second: I never liked the idea of AI, not for a minute. I knew that its disastrous effects on mankind would outweigh any tiny bit of good it might possibly produce.
And it’s just not worth it!
