Airline Attire No Nos NEVER To Wear On A Plane
Do you know about the airline attire no no-nos you should NEVER wear on a flight?
Travel :
Once upon a time, airline attire was dressy and considered special. Travelers would wear their Sunday best with men dressing in suits and ties and women in festive dresses. However, it’s much more common today to see travelers decked out in sweatpants, short shorts, crocs, and even flip-flops. Now, a former Secret Service agent is warning that comfortable airline attire is not always safe.
When we travel, most people dress for comfort in preparation for walking a mile or more at the airport, passing through the TSA checkpoint, and flying several hours in a tiny seat. Regrettably, almost everyone neglects to consider how our style of dress is vital for survival in the event of an emergency.
For example, if a plane were to crash-land on the side of a snowy mountain, those comfy short shorts and open-toe sandals would suddenly be a bad idea in unexpected cold weather. Additionally, if a flight was forced to make an emergency landing and passengers were required to slide down an inflatable ramp and then run away from a burning plane, crocs and flip-flops would instantly be a disastrous footwear choice.
Sadly, most passengers only think about circumstances in their departure and arrival cities and never consider the consequences of their attire if the unexpected were to happen somewhere in between — like being diverted to a different airport with cold weather, snowy conditions, and needing to walk across an icy tarmac to the terminal.
Thankfully, someone has decided to speak up with a warning for travelers.
“Here’s one thing I would never do. I would never wear flip-flops in an airport” former agent @texascrimetravelers said on TikTok.
“I know it’s a hassle of going through TSA to take the shoes off and have to put shoes back on, and it’s easy just to kick off flip flops and put them back on. But, if there was ever an emergency that you had to evacuate the airport quickly or even exit the aircraft quickly, you don’t want to be stuck in flip flops when you’re trying to hustle,” he said.
“One time we were flying back to the United States and our plane had to make an emergency landing in Brazil. Of course, the airport wasn’t ready for us, so they landed us at this runway on the outskirts of the airport. And of course, out there, there’s no jet bridge, so we had to exit the aircraft by its own stairs and walk to the terminal, which seemed about a mile.
“We walked across not only the runway, but we had to walk [through the] airfield and the fields were muddy. It was cold. It was rainy.”
He added: “I just don’t think if you had flip-flops on, you would have been able to make it to the airport.”
So, there you have it. The next time you fly, you might consider wearing long pants and a long-sleeved shirt (in case you encounter cold weather). You might also consider carrying a jacket for the same reasons or if the plane environment becomes cold.
And for God’s sake (and for your own safety), wear enclosed shoes with a hard sole. Hopefully, this tip will be like a seat belt. You may never need it, but you’ll be oh so glad you had it if you ever did.
OK WASSUP! discusses Travel:
Airline attire NOT to wear.
Regular readers may recall, I do not like to fly. I do it when I have to but I pray all the way to my destination and all the way back home. 🙏
This is a great topic, for the main reasons pointed out in DJ’s post.
Thanks DJ!
From now on, I will definitely be more mindful about my attire whenever traveling long distance especially by plane.
