al-Qaeda’s Explosive Clothing?
Recent threats from al-Qaeda have prompted the U.S. government to close various embassies around the world. However, some new information reveals that an al-Qaeda threat could be much closer to home.
According to ABC News, the infamous terrorist organization has invented a “new generation of liquid explosives” for a potential sneak attack. Of course, we’ve heard all this before. However, this latest bomb “would not be detected by current security measures” and is being called “ingenious” by U.S. terrorism officials.
The latest plot involves somewhat of an invisible threat. Terrorists would dip their clothes into a special liquid that becomes explosive once the clothes are dry, then easily board a plane, enter a stadium or simply walk down a crowded street and detonate their clothing without ever being detected.
Reportedly, the new bomb technique was developed by al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, which happens to be the home of Ibrahim al-Asiri, known for his failed underwear bomb in 2009. Since al-Qaeda has elevated its activity of late, news of a clothing bomb has put U.S. officials on high alert.
As one official put it, unless everyone travels in the nude, there is no current way to prevent such a threat from proceeding successfully.
