American Idol Picks Its Panel
Hey, guess what? It’s time for American Idol again (yawn). And the show has just picked its latest judges via the revolving door of its panel.
Current Events
Keith Urban (a holdover from last year) and Jennifer Lopez (returning for her 2nd stint) will welcome newcomer Harry Connick, Jr. to the judges panel. Yippee!
Connick has appeared on the reality series many times before as a mentor and performer, but has now inked a deal to join the show’s 13th season.
Previously, it was reported that former contestant turned Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson was under consideration as a judge. However, after last season’s unpopular friction between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj, the show opted against adding another female. Hmmm…
Current Events
Last week, American Idol producer Simon Fuller hosted a small party with series original Randy Jackson (who will move from judge to mentor in the upcoming season), Urban, Lopez and Connick on hand to toast the new panel. Interestingly, J-Lo’s dancer/boy-toy Caspar Smart accidentally leaked the news of Lopez returning to the show prior to the official announcement yesterday. He has reportedly had his monthly “allowance” cut by J-Lo as punishment.
American Idol was once considered a ratings juggernaut for Fox Television. However, after 13 seasons and few legitimate stars made, musical chairs and cat fights amongst the judges, as well as the rise of other TV talent shows such as The Voice, Idol has lost the luster it once had. It’s a show that is truly in critical condition and on life support. How much longer it can hold on is anyones guess.
