American Idol Says Goodbye

After 15 seasons on the air, American Idol, the entertainment juggernaut that launched the careers of such stars as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert, Jennifer Hudson and more, and created copycat shows such as “The Voice” and “X Factor,” ended its run.

The once hugely popular TV talent show made a bundle for Fox, at one point owning 3 successive nights of prime time television weekly and raking in 37.4 million viewers in its heyday.  However, when the show began to slump in recent years, honchos at Fox saw the writing on the wall and realized it was time to pull the plug on America’s former favorite singing showcase.

On Thursday night, longtime host Ryan Seacrest was joined by his first season co-host Brian Dunkleman, crowning Trent Harmon as the 15th and final American Idol winner and bidding a final farewell to the show. It was the end of an era…or was it?

During the final moments of the live broadcast from Los Angeles, Seacrest said “Goodnight America — FOR NOW.”  Huh???

According to producers, Idol may find a 2nd life at some point in the future.  A retooled show with different rules in a different venue on a different network could be in the works. Is a resurrected American Idol a good idea, or is it a grand idea that has come and gone? Stay tuned!

THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY!
