Would you vote for Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York for President of the United States? Word on the street is, you just might get the chance.
Politics
According to several inside sources, high-level operatives within the Democratic National Committee have begun internal talks about the possibility of replacing Joe Biden with Andrew Cuomo as the Democratic nominee for president.
Gov. Cuomo has become a bit of a rock star of late due to his daily coronavirus press conferences, which have become very popular across America and have put Donald Trump and his lack of knowledge and empathy to shame. With social distancing rules enacted throughout the country, neither Joe Biden nor Bernie Sanders has been able to hold campaign rallies to gain political traction against Trump. However, as governor of the state deemed as the nation’s coronavirus ‘epicenter,’ the 62-year-old Cuomo holds the perfect bully pulpit to contrast the one held by Donald Trump.
Sources say the DNC is not only concerned that the pandemic has prevented Biden from holding rallies and raising much-needed funds to battle ‘The Donald,’ but they’re also concerned about some recent television appearances that didn’t quite go as smoothly as planned. Democratic leaders are said to be discussing if the 77-year-old’ Biden’s age and presumed cognitive decline would survive a “dog-eat-dog” general election against a money-rich Trump and his expected no holds barred campaign. Additionally, there’s also been some discussion if Biden would even have the stamina to hold the office as the oldest president in US history.
Yes, Bernie Sanders is still a candidate and still in the race, however, the DNC has long since soured on him for his attempts to nix establishment moderates and turn the party to the extreme left. Additionally, several Sanders donors and even his own campaign manager have urged him that it’s time to withdraw.
So, exactly how would all this happen if true?
Internal sources believe former President Barack Obama would be dispatched to convince Biden to step aside in the best interest of the party and the country and pledge all of his delegates to Andrew Cuomo. Then, with no need to campaign or travel due to the pandemic, Cuomo could simply remain governor, continue his popular daily press briefings, and use his executive office on the state level as his main campaign tool, just as Donald Trump is using his executive office on the federal level.
Last week, CNN’s Chris Cuomo asked his brother, Andrew, if he would consider running for president if asked. Always the diplomat, the governor answered with a simple “No!” but also made sure to add that former Vice-President Biden is “a great public servant” and “a guy who does the job for real Americans.”
Yes, he gave the perfect response. No, he didn’t quite deliver a definitive “NO.” Yes, it’s very possible he could be convinced in order to save America from 4 more years of Trump madness.
In this new era of the coronavirus, social distancing has made traditional political campaigning a thing of the past. The stakes are too high in 2020 and the desire to get Donald Trump out of office is too great. Trump is already using his office and daily press briefings as a campaign tool, however, Democrats with Biden are unable to do the same. Cuomo could change that.
Democrats can’t afford to take a beating in 2020 that’s even worse than that of 2016 and it may be time to discard the old playbook and pave a new path to victory.
With that thought in mind, could Gov. Andrew Cuomo be drafted as the Democrat’s new secret weapon?
Wow this is a interesting way to look at things. I like Biden but I see the case for Cuomo too. I was bored last night and watched Trump talk to the press last night and he had nothing to say of value. It was all just a campaign rally for a hour and all the news channels covered it. Biden cannot really compete with that because he is not in office right now. But Cuomo can so I get it. Now they are talking about having a online convention because people cannot gather. That does not work out well for Biden to make a case to all of America he should be president. But we will see what happens.
