Anti-Gay Marriage Video Makes Bigotry OK
Anti-Gay Marriage…
Have you heard about “NOT ALONE,” the new anti-Gay Marriage video? You should.
Gay Marriage
NOT ALONE is a short PSA film created by the political group Catholic Vote, a group of Catholics who take to the camera with a secret confession: they don’t want gay people getting married.
“We’re here because we have something to say and we’re no longer afraid to say it”, reads the caption underneath the video. “I know a lot of people who are gay,” says one member beneath a lush, violin melody. “It’s too important to me,” says another behind tears. One by one they each unite behind the same bigoted idea: “I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman.”
The most interesting part of the video is when the group almost takes on the role of a victim — saying how nervous they are for going public and wondering how people will feel about them or treat them for being “this way.” It’s as if their admission of bigotry is a moment of bravery and their actions a noble barrier against the evils of homosexuals soiling the sanctity of matrimony. The only problem is, it’s a bushel of bullshit.
“Bigoted is a huge word that gets thrown around,” says a man from the film. He’s damned right. After all, isn’t it great to know they’re “not alone” and that there are other shallow-minded bigots like themselves roaming the face of the earth?
Check out the video for yourself. It’ll give you something interesting to ponder as you launch your weekend plans.
THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY!
Thanks DJ, for bringing this video to my attention. I had neither seen nor heard about it. Wow. Quite the cynical and sinister ploy, using reverse AND PERVERSE psychology. Present “straight” people, who are anti-gay marriage, as the outsiders, the “victims” of some form of discrimination who are bravely stepping, “Out” into the open, and publicly sharing how they feel..!?! Well let me first disclose (as I’ve done on one or two previous posts)- “Gay marriage” is NOT for me. But I do support Marriage Equality because I have NO right to force my beliefs upon others. I have NO right to block two-consenting adults from marrying each other if they choose to do so. You know, it’s taken years of truly growing up (maturing) and observing the world I live in (especially my own country) to deduce that the 3 main characteristics of “Haters” of any ilk (religious zealots,… Read more »
