Appeals Court Saves Donald Trump… For Now!
A New York appeals court has temporarily saved Donald Trump from the long arm of the law and NY Attorney General Letitia James.
Politics :
On Monday, the man known as ‘Teflon Don’ (for his surprising ability to somehow always avoid consequences) was handed a lifeline by a five-judge panel of appellate court judges in New York State. Instead of having to pay a $454 million judgment or risk losing his bank accounts and valuable real estate properties, Donald Trump will now only have to pay the far smaller bond of $175 million.
The 11th-hour appeals court ruling avoided certain financial disaster for Donald Trump, albeit temporarily. Trump must pay the $175 million bond in order to jumpstart an appeals process which could take months. If he wins the appeal, his financial judgment will be decreased or dismissed. However, if he loses, he will be required to pay the original $454 million.
“The ruling today represents a great first step towards the ultimate reversal of a baseless and reckless judgment,” Trump lawyer Charles Kise said in a statement. “The [appellate division] no doubt recognized the rule of law must triumph over the political agenda of the Attorney General. President Trump looks forward to a full and fair appellate process which overturns the judgment and ends the Attorney General’s abuse of power and tyrannical pursuit of the front-running candidate for President of the United States.”
A spokesperson for Ms. James warned that this is far from over.
“Donald Trump is still facing accountability for his staggering fraud. The court has already found that he engaged in years of fraud to falsely inflate his net worth and unjustly enrich himself, his family, and his organization,′ the spokesperson said.
“The $464 million judgment –- plus interest –- against Donald Trump and the other defendants still stands.”
Meanwhile and in a separate case, New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan announced Monday that Trump’s criminal indictment involving federal prosecutors from the Southern District of New York is heading to trial on April 15th.
Let’s see when (and if) justice will prevail.

NY appeals court throws Trump a bone.
I was a little surprised by the Appeals Court’s “highly unusual” but not unprecedented ruling of lowering the amount.
But I’m also watching just how long it’s going to take him to pay even the reduced amount of $175 million. I was thinking he would’ve coughed that up right away, IF he has the money(?)
