ARIZONA BIRTHER BILL VETOED

Spread The Love

Yesterday, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer wisely vetoed a birther bill passed by the state legislature last week that would have required presidential candidates to prove they were born in the U.S.

The Republican led state legislature was very ready to politicize the issue, just in time for President Obama’s reelection bid.  But Brewer said she was troubled that the process would have given Arizona’s secretary of state sole power to decide whether or not to accept a candidate’s documentation and their claims of being born in the United States.  Or in other words, if the secretary of state didn’t believe a candidate was a U.S. citizen, that candidate could have been barred from the Arizona ballot.

In a letter, Brewer said:

“I do not support designating one person as the gatekeeper to the ballot for a candidate, which could lead to arbitrary or politically motivated decisions.  In addition, I never imagined being presented with a bill that could require candidates for president of the greatest and most powerful nation on Earth to submit their ‘early baptismal circumcision certificates’ among other records to the Arizona secretary of state.  This is a bridge too far.”

  2. I'm so tired of these d-mn birther people. There only doing this because he's black. Nobody questioned John Mccain being born in the Panama canal. Jan Brewer finally did something smart in Arizona or this could have blown up in her face.
