Autonomous Travel Suite = Hotel Of The Future?
What if your next business or social trip didn’t involve you being cramped inside a crowded jet or stuck behind the wheel of your car for 5+ hours while driving to your destination? What if you could turn all those idle hours into work, play, or even sleep time? This could become your reality sooner than you think with the Autonomous Travel Suite.

Move over self-driving cars and make room for the Automated Travel Suite — a virtual self-driving hotel room on wheels. The ATS is the brainchild of Toronto-based Steve Lee of Aprilli Design Studio and is being created to revolutionize the way we travel.
While car designers have focused on turning conventional vehicles into advanced ones, “as an architect, I see self-driving vehicles as more being more like a mobile room,” said Lee.
The ATS has been designed to transport travelers on journeys of 6 to 10 hours in length, and is equipped with many of the features found inside a traditional hotel room: a sleeping space (with a memory foam mattress), a workspace, a tiny kitchen, a toilet, a sitting shower and an “entertainment zone” for watching television, movies, or for gaming.
The ATS will be controlled by a smartphone app. Travelers will “select the start and end points of their journeys and can add stopping off points such as gyms and restaurants,” said Lee. “The system will work out the best route.” Additionally, the vehicle will be encased in panoramic smart glass windows to provide spectacular views while traveling. Those windows will even dim at the touch of a button.
The ATS will be able to automatically dock into a static “parent suite” in various cities across the country to form an integrated “hotel” unit offering overnight stays and shared amenities such as swimming pools, gyms, restaurants and meeting rooms. Docking will also provide a recharge to the battery for the ATS to commence travel again the next day.
So, instead of flying or driving to a destination and then checking into a static hotel, you will board your hotel in your own driveway and travel inside your own hotel room to wherever you need to go.
