More than 2,000 former prosecutors and other Justice Department officials have gone public with a very urgent message: “Attorney General William Barr must resign immediately for the sake of saving America and democracy.”

In a statement that initially started with 1,100 signatures but rose to 2,003 as of Monday afternoon, the justice officials were emphatic in making it clear why they believe Barr must resign.
“Mr. Barr’s actions in doing the President’s personal bidding unfortunately speak louder than his words. Those actions, and the damage they have done to the Department of Justice’s reputation for integrity and the rule of law, require Mr. Barr to resign. But because we have little expectation he will do so, it falls to the Department’s career officials to take appropriate action to uphold their oaths of office and defend nonpartisan, apolitical justice,” the statement read.
Interestingly, former Deputy Attorney General Donald Ayer, who worked with Barr in the George H. W. Bush’s administration and has been friends with him for 40 years, joined the thousands of former Justice Department employees in their demand that Barr must resign.
“Bill Barr’s America is not a place that anyone, including Trump voters, should want to go,” Ayer said. “It is a banana republic where all are subject to the whims of a dictatorial president and his henchmen. To prevent that, we need a public uprising demanding that Bill Barr resign immediately, or failing that, be impeached,” he added.
The rare statements from Ayer and other justice officials came just a week after career prosecutors resigned by the droves following Barr’s overruling of their sentencing recommendation (at the personal request of Donald Trump) in the Roger Stone case. Calls to save democracy also grew once Trump came out and brazenly confirmed that he was guilty of the charges that led to his impeachment.
In a podcast interview with Geraldo Rivera from last Thursday, Trump was asked, “Was it strange to send Rudy Giuliani to Ukraine, your personal lawyer? Are you sorry you did that?”
Instead of continuing to deny ever dispatching Giuliani to Ukraine to investigate the Bidens, a now emboldened Donald Trump happily admitted to it all.
“No, not at all…I deal with the Comeys of the world or I deal with Rudy,” Trump said, adding that dealing with Comey left “a very bad taste” in his mouth due to the whole Russia investigation. “So when you tell me, why did I use Rudy, and one of the things about Rudy, number one, he was the best prosecutor, you know, one of the best prosecutors, and the best mayor,” Trump said. “But also, other presidents had them. FDR had a lawyer who was practically, you know, was totally involved with government. Eisenhower had a lawyer. They all had lawyers.”
Unfortunately for Trump, his history lesson never mentioned that neither FDR nor Eisenhower used their personal lawyers to uncover nonexistent dirt on potential political rivals.
Donald Trump has now admitted he broke the law. Attorney General Barr has now shown he is willing to turn a blind eye to Trump’s illegalities and to, in fact, support him in breaking the law.
We usually hold the President of the United States and the Attorney General of the United States to a high standard to uphold the law. However, when they are the ones who are actively breaking the law, it’s time for them both to go.

And a Republican-led Senate that will protect Trump and ALL of his cronies at ALL costs.
It breaks my heart to say this but I can’t deny what I am witnessing. This is American Fascism taking root on FULL display before our very eyes and the eyes of the world. Our system of “checks and balances” are being Exposed as being dangerously Weak and easily Corrupted, almost to the point of total disintegration.
So WHO is going save us?! Us. WE who truly love this country!
Or WE are done.
