BETTY WHITE IS ‘GOLDEN’ ON SNL
There’s only one way to rate the host of this past weekend’s SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE — Betty White was GOLDEN.
After months and months of campaigning on the Betty White SNL Facebook Fan Page, the dream of Facebook fans finally came true as Betty White hosted Saturday Night Live to much of the world’s enjoyment. Drawing on her 60 years in comedy, America’s favorite “Golden Girl” showed everyone how its done. And at 88-years-old she was the consummate pro — sweet, sassy, salty, charming and clearly game for anything. “I’m not new to live TV,” White reminded the audience at the top of the show, recalling that she had starred in a live sitcom that aired back in 1952. “Of course, back then, we didn’t WANT to do it live. We just didn’t know how to tape things.” (beat beat beat) “I don’t know what THIS show’s excuse is.”
The special Mother’s Day edition of the show was a bit of a reunion for several female “SNL” alumnae, bringing back former regulars Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Ana Gasteyer, Maya Rudolph and Molly Shannon. But White was the queen bee, appearing in nearly every sketch throughout the 90-minute show — and never once failing to entertain. In case you missed it, here’s a clip from her opening monologue:
