Beyonce’ Knocks Superbowl Lights Out!
Last night, The Baltimore Ravens defeated The San Francisco 49er’s 34-31, in an “electric” and exciting Superbowl XLVII from the New Orleans Superdome. But the annual celebration wasn’t simply about sports.
The evening started with an emotional rendition of “America The Beautiful,” featuring Jennifer Hudson and children from the Sandy Hook Elementary School. Next up was the “Star Spangled Banner,” sung beautifully by multiple Grammy winner Alicia Keys. As the game commenced, early entertainment was provided by the traditional series of specialty commercials, including a grossly inappropriate one from GO DADDY involving a lip lock between a fashion model and a bearish nerd. Early word on the odd commercial was a 2 Thumbs Down from just about everybody.
But the highlight of the evening was the halftime show from Beyonce’, who delivered an amazingly high-tech performance that included a variety of her greatest hits and one very special surprise — a reunion of “Destiny’s Child,” the singing group that launched her career. One by one, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams popped up from beneath the stage to ecstatic cheers from the crowd, joining Beyonce’ in their group hit “Bootylicious” and Beyonce’s “Put A Ring On It…Uh, Uh, Oh.” It was one of the better halftime shows in recent memory.
Beyonce’s show was so electric, that it is likely the cause of what knocked the electricity out of the Superdome — literally!
At the start of the 2nd half of the game, the Superdome lost all power and went totally dark for nearly 20 minutes, as crews worked feverishly to restore lights and get back to the sporting action on the field. San Francisco was in a deep hole at the time and the electrical outage seemed to take the wind out of the Baltimore players, while helping the 49er’s to regroup.
Still, the “Beyonce” electric outage wasn’t enough to save the San Francisco 49er’s from their nail biting defeat, as Ray Lewis and the Baltimore Ravens prevailed in the end.
