The Democratic field of women running for President of the United States is historic. However, what about the Democratic men vying to become Commander-In-Chief? What about a Biden-Beto 2020 ticket?
Politics
New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker was the last male Democrat to announce his candidacy for the presidency, joining an already crowded list of candidates that include Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Sen. Kamala Harris of California, former HUD Secretary Julian Castro of Texas, and Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont. Booker has a standout history of public service from his days as Mayor of Newark. Additionally, he and his Democratic colleagues are all passionate, experienced, and extremely viable candidates for the Oval Office. Still, something is missing.
With 20 months left until the November of 2020 presidential election, there’s a lot of time for a Democrat to catch fire with the American people and garner enough support to prevent another 4 years of Donald Trump (that is, if he isn’t indicted). However, Democratic party operatives including former President Barack Obama and former Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton are already putting their heads together to assure that Trump’s days in The White House are numbered.
So, what’s the plan? Who has what it takes to beat Donald Trump and his power-base? The plan being whispered in Washington involves Biden and Beto.
Former Vice-President Joe Biden sat out the 2016 presidential election following the death of his son. However, many Democrats are already pleading “Run Joe, run!”
According to a recent CNN poll, 49% of Democrats say they want a candidate who has the wherewithal to beat Trump. Additionally, 39% say they want someone with the right amount of experience to lead America, while another 28% say it’s important to nominate someone who has the know-how to work with Republicans across the aisle in order to get things done.
Combine those percentages with the 58% of Americans who say they are very likely NOT to support Donald Trump for a 2nd term, if at all, and Democrats have a winning strategy to regain the presidency.
So, is Joe Biden the candidate who can fulfill the requirements Democrats want in 2020? According to 2 previous CNN polls, Democratic voters say YES! Biden’s years of political experience, his mastery of foreign policy, likeability in working with congressional leaders in both parties, as well as his connection to Barack Obama and their successful 8 years in office has many Democrats salivating for Joe to announce a run.
However, there’s another Democrat making headlines as well:Â former congressman Beto O’Rourke of Texas.
Widely considered a modern-day “Barack Obama-type” politician, Beto is extremely personable and engaging. Not only did he represent Texas’ 16th congressional district for 3 terms in the US House of Representatives, but he came thisclose to defeating incumbent Sen. Ted Cruz for his Senate seat during the 2016 midterms.
Although the 46-year-old O’Rourke has captured lightning in a bottle and needs to strike now if he ever wants to be president, some say he doesn’t have the necessary edge (at this time) to go up against a brute like Donald Trump.
But, Joe Biden does — and Biden-Beto could be a Democratic match made in heaven.
Although neither man has yet to announce their intent to run in 2020, could a Democratic team of the blue-collar Joe Biden of Delaware and the charismatic Beto O’Rourke of Texas be the golden ticket to successfully run Donald Trump out of Washington? Or, will Democrats pin their hopes of victory on Booker, Warren, Harris, or Sanders?
I don’t know if they’re a winning combo, but this just posted in USA Today: Colorado’s former Gov. John Hickenlooper on Monday joined the growing field of Democratic candidates hoping to unseat President Donald Trump in 2020. The centrist Democrat made the announcement in an online video titled “Standing Tall.” The video touts Hickenlooper’s accomplishments as governor and highlights his biography as an unemployed geologist who became a successful restaurateur. “We need a leader who can bring people together and get stuff done. As a successful entrepreneur, mayor and governor, I’ve proven that I can build and lead amazing teams of talented people- a key ingredient to effecting real progressive change. I hope you’ll join me,” he tweeted Monday morning. The two-term governor left office in January. Before becoming governor, he served two terms He is expected to campaign on his ability to implement Democratic goals in a politically divided… Read more »
