Biden Farewell Address Passes The Torch
The Biden ‘Farewell’ Address on Wednesday night was a touching passing of the torch to a younger generation.

After more than a week away from the public eye due to a bout with COVID, President Joe Biden reemerged on Wednesday in an Oval Office address to explain his decision to step away from the 2024 presidential election.
During this somewhat unofficial Biden Farewell Address, the president told the American people that his decision to step aside was “the best way to unite” the country.
“I revere this office. But I love my country more,” Mr. Biden said through a hoarse voice during his brief remarks. “It’s been the honor of my life to serve as your president, but in defense of democracy, which is at stake, I think it’s more important than any title.”
The president added: “But nothing, NOTHING can come in the way of saving our democracy. That includes personal ambition.”
Mr. Biden’s decision to walk away from the most powerful position in the world for the sake of the country and democracy was in stark contrast to the deeds of Donald Trump, who refused to walk away from power in 2020, refuses to believe the results of a legitimate election, and put his personal ambitions ahead of democracy and America’s tradition of a peaceful transition of power.
“I ran for president four years ago because … the soul of America was at stake. And that’s still the case.” However, “It’s time for fresh voices, yes, younger voices,” and “I’ve decided to pass the torch to a new generation. And, that time and place is now,” Mr. Biden said before offering a full-throated endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris to be his replacement in January.
At the end of the Biden Farewell Address, Mr. Biden called America a “nation of promise and possibilities”
“Nowhere else on Earth could a kid with a stutter from modest beginnings in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Claymont, Delaware, one day sit behind the Resolute desk in the Oval Office as president of the United States,” the president said. But “Here I am. … The great thing about America is here, kings and dictators do not rule. The PEOPLE do!”
