Fasten your seat belts, folks. A President Joe Biden impeachment inquiry has been officially authorized by the Republican Party and could begin at any moment.

What has President Biden done to warrant an impeachment, you ask? Good question. The short answer is that no one really knows for sure. Some Republicans want to impeach the president because he’s the father of Hunter Biden, who has been involved in questionable business practices. Others have mentioned “obstruction” and “corruption” without providing any evidence of what Mr. Biden did to obstruct or corrupt.
However, the real reason Republicans want to proceed with an impeachment is simple: revenge.
Donald Trump was impeached twice. So, the vengeful Trump put a hit out and ordered Republicans to find a reason — ANY reason — to impeach President Biden. In Trump’s mind, a Biden impeachment would not only be political payback to Democrats for daring to impeach him but would make his dual impeachments seem less severe.
GOP House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced the Biden impeachment decision on Tuesday, claiming a House investigation into the Biden family uncovered a “culture of corruption” that demands deeper review.
“There are allegations of abuse of power, obstruction and corruption,” McCarthy said.
Although he was unable to cite any evidence of misconduct by Mr. Biden himself, he added: “We will go where the evidence takes us.”
Or, in other words, this blatant political maneuver is a punishment in search of a crime.
The Biden impeachment is not really a surprise to political observers since the MAGA-controlled House of Representatives has been barking about it for months. Several GOP House members ran for election on the promise that they would impeach Mr. Biden if elected. Despite not having a legitimate reason or actual evidence to proceed, they are throwing all caution to the wind and fulfilling a political promise to their crazed constituents.
Interestingly, Kevin McCarthy only became Speaker of the House in the 11th hour because he made a deal with the devil and agreed to concessions with MAGA Republicans that he’s now being forced to uphold. McCarthy likely knows that his party will take a huge political hit by proceeding with a Biden impeachment. However, because MAGA Republicans threatened to oust the speaker, he found himself in a “damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t” scenario.
“I rise today to serve notice, Mr. Speaker, that you are out of compliance with the agreement that allowed you to assume this role,” GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida said on the House floor. “The path forward for the House of Representatives is to either bring you into total, immediate compliance or remove you,” he threatened.
McCarthy was cornered — and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell cringed at the thought of the damage control he would soon have to conduct on behalf of his party.
MAGA Republicans in the House will use the impeachment inquiry to seize bank and tax records from Mr. Biden. They will then scour these records in an attempt to “find” some sort of irregularity and prove they were right all along (sort of the way they searched voter ballots after the 2020 presidential election hoping to “find” irregularities that simply didn’t exist in an effort to keep Trump in power).
On Tuesday, Democrats appeared almost giddy over the Biden impeachment and the political advantage it could provide. They are confident that MAGA Republicans will merely fall flat on their faces from embarrassment after wasting time and taxpayer money on a crap shoot. They also recognize this will be an exercise in futility since an impeachment will never survive the Democratically-controlled US Senate.
“House Republicans have been investigating the President for 9 months, and they’ve turned up no evidence of wrongdoing,” White House spokesman Ian Sams tweeted. “His [McCarthy’s] own GOP members have said so. He vowed to hold a vote to open impeachment, now he flip-flopped because he doesn’t have support.”
“This impeachment is Kevin McCarthy’s shiny new object to distract the public from the fact that the GOP can’t even pass bills to fund the government,” Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal said.
Yes, the chickens have come home to roost. MAGA is in complete control of the once Grand Ol’ Party and would rather settle a political score than look a few months ahead (to the 2024 election) and consider the risks of their impending actions.
Old-school members of the Republican Party already know this won’t end well (for them). Hopefully, Donald Trump and his MAGA minions will eventually get the message, too.

Politico: Joe Biden has a literal Trump card to play against the House’s new impeachment inquiry. In January 2020, the Donald Trump-led Justice Department formally declared that impeachment inquiries by the House are invalid unless the chamber takes formal votes to authorize them. That opinion — issued by the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel — came in response to then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s decision to launch an impeachment inquiry into Trump without initially holding a vote for it.
