Spread The Love

It may be hard to believe, but the Joe Biden inauguration was exactly one year ago today.  Let’s take a look back.

Top News Today
The day began with a church service with Democratic and Republican leaders alike joining the Biden-Harris families for a moment of worship. The new administration then headed to The Capitol for the swearing-in ceremonies.

The Biden - Harris Inauguration

Vice-President Kamala Harris took her oath of office first.  She borrowed a bible once owned by the late Justice Thurgood Marshall and was sworn in by Latina justice Sonia Sotomayor. At 11:45am, she made triple-history by becoming the first Black, South Asian, and female vice-president of the US ever.

The oath by President Joe Biden was next. Due to a scheduling error by planners, his oath was administered 10 minutes too early. However, the clock struck 12 noon while he was giving his inaugural remarks and it was only then that he became the official POTUS.

Following the inauguration, President Biden and Vice-President Harris were joined by former presidents Clinton, Bush, and Obama to lay a wreath at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. The Biden inauguration celebration then continued with a muted parade that ended at The White House. Next, the new president and vice-president entered their perspective offices to get right down to work.

Wow! Such mixed emotions. That’s what I’m feeling right now.

Grateful that WE (the majority of Americans voters) showed up at the ballot box during the last presidential election and at least, For Now, saved Our country and our democracy.

But unfortunately we’re just barley hanging on to both by a thread.

“Manchin, Sinema join GOP to sink filibuster change for voting bill” Senate Democrats failed to change the legislative filibuster for a voting bill on Wednesday night, after Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) voted with Republicans to oppose the rules reform, handing President Biden and the party a stinging defeat.   Senators voted 52-48 to defeat the rules change, which would have nixed the 60-vote hurdle for the election bill. I am glad we got Trump out of there. But Democrats have not been working together to make sure they all get elected again. Repubs always stick together but not the Dems.
