Last Thursday’s President Joe Biden speech at the 2024 State of the Union Address has left the Republican Party shouting: “We’re mad as hell and we’re not going to take it anymore!”
Politics :
For weeks, the GOP foolishly painted Joe Biden as an invalid, a walking cadaver with one foot in the grave, and an imbecile who’s so old and confused that he’s walking around the White House grounds with his underwear on backward and no knowledge that he’s the President of the United States.
And then, the 2024 State of the Union Address happened.
Not only did Mr. Biden appear as if he could tackle 4 more years as president with one hand tied behind his back, but he whipped the GOP into such a state of shock and oblivion that they were all left punch drunk for days into the weekend.
Regrettably, Republicans have grown so accustomed to buying their own BS, they actually believed the stories they invented that the president was inept and the Biden speech would prove it all to the American public on national TV. Well, too bad (for them) they set the bar for Biden so low that they made it almost too easy for him to succeed.
Led by MAGA darling Marjorie Taylor Greene and her head-to-toe MAGA outfit (which violated the congressional dress code), Republicans came to the Biden speech fixing for a fight. They left all home training and whatever ounce of decorum they had at the door, repeatedly shouted at the president (as if audience participation was somehow desired and acceptable), then walked freely into one land mine after another that Mr. Biden had set for them.
In short, they appeared less like a legitimate political party and more like trailer park trash.
President Biden brought up the issue of immigration and the crisis at the border. Almost immediately, Republican lawmakers shouted at him as if he was doing nothing about it. Hilariously, Mr. Biden expected the melee and responded with a quickness by reminding them about the bill conservatives created but Republicans refused to pass.
“Oh, you don’t like that bill, huh? [The one] that conservatives got together and said was a good bill? I’ll be darned,” Mr. Biden said while GOP Sen. James Lankford of Oklahoma shook his head in agreement with the president. “Look at the facts. I know you know how to read,” he added, prompting Republicans to cower in their seats and shut up.
Some GOP lawmakers jeer as Pres. Biden says the bipartisan border bill would have included the “toughest set of border security reforms we’ve ever seen.”

Next, Marjorie Taylor Greene thought she had a cute trick up her sleeve when she prodded Mr. Biden to say out loud the name of Laken Riley, an American woman who was killed by an undocumented immigrant at the border.
President Biden was expecting that trick, too, and immediately spoke her name then offered his condolences to her family (who were in attendance) — much to the surprise of MTG who was so convinced he’d never do it that she remained silent for the remainder of the night.
The Biden speech took multiple potshots at “my predecessor” (AKA Donald Trump), made a joke about once being told as a senator that he was “too young” — but now hearing as president that he’s “too old,” then dropped the mic and headed for the exits while shaking hands and receiving pats on the back by giddy Democrats who were over the moon to see Joe back in old form.
Yes, the Biden speech gave the GOP a left jab, a right hook, and then a roundhouse knock-out punch they simply weren’t expecting.
Good ol’ Joe Biden proved he’s still got it!
HOUSE SPEAKER MIKE JOHNSON
As President Biden gave the most important speech of his career, poor Mike Johnson was forced to sit behind him — on camera at all times — while squirming like an uncomfortable kid who wanted to be anywhere but there. He was frequently confused on when to stand and/or clap, and oddly chose to shake his head “no” to almost everything the president said.
According to The New Republic:
“House Speaker Mike Johnson showed, in his histrionic facial expressions, everything that’s wrong and idiotic and dangerous and even treasonous about the Republican Party. Johnson was ridiculous. He was small.
“Johnson decided that the State of the Union was the right time to mug for the camera. And he laid it on like a silent-movie actor, so thick that you could practically see the girl tied on the railroad tracks and hear the piano music. He nodded and nodded—you know, that solemn, ‘more in anger than in sorrow’ nod. And those eye rolls! He rolled his eyes more than a teenage girl listening to her father’s jokes.”
Not surprisingly, the Biden speech has turned little Mike Johnson and his “now famous” eye rolls into a multitude of memes.
KATIE BRITT’S REPUBLICAN RESPONSE
Yes, we’ve saved the best for last. The cringe-worthy Republican response to the Biden speech by Sen. Katie Britt of Alabama.
Britt delivered her speech from a kitchen, in the hopes of appearing relatable like a mom or a homemaker. It failed. She attempted to tug at the heartstrings of America with a fake cry that was so bad, it would have embarrassed a 1st grade drama class. She even told the story of a sex-trafficking crime in America that actually occurred in Mexico.
Her GOP response was so bad that Saturday Night Live mocked it by acting it out as their show opener this past weekend. Additionally, Republicans were so embarrassed by her rebuttal that many were caught saying the quiet part (“I hated it”) out loud. Twitter/X users took turns throwing a pie at her face.
“Seriously, the Katie Britt response is scary as sh*t. This is like a sci-fi movie. This is Handmaid’s Tale coming to life,” political analyst and columnist David J. Rothkopf said.
“I don’t think Katie Britt is going to get the lead in the school play this year,” MSNBC legal analyst and former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann posted.
“20 seconds in and no one can convince me this isn’t an SNL [Saturday Night Live] skit. Also are we sure Katie Britt isn’t AI??” X user @MamaSissieSays laughed.
The first-term Republican senator had been mentioned as a potential running mate for Donald Trump. However, with even Republicans ridiculing her performance, her chances to appear on the Trump ticket are all but dead in the water now.
To summarize, rumors of Joe Biden’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. The Biden speech proved he’s still sharp, still very much a fighter, and still qualified to remain the leader of the free world.
OK WASSUP! discusses Politics:
