Biden Ticket: Who’s The Best Running Mate?

- An African-American? A female? Republican? TAKE OUR POLL!

Spread The Love

Joe Biden is well on his way to securing the Democratic nomination for President of the United States.  So, it’s probably not too early to consider his choices for a running mate and what a potential Biden ticket might look like in 2020.

Politics
Who knew the Democratic race for president would come down to 2 old white guys against another old white guy?  Well, that’s exactly where we are and what we’re left with — which means it’s important for the eventual nominee to balance out the ticket in a myriad of ways.  There’s geographical location, political positions, age, gender, ethnicity and more to consider.  There’s also the thought of making a choice who’s tough enough to take it to Donald Trump and Mike Pence while allowing Biden to appear “presidential.”

So, let’s take a look at the best choices ‘Uncle Joe’ should consider for a possible 2020 Biden ticket:

.

KAMALA HARRIS

Kamala Harris is a seasoned United States Senator and a former Attorney General who, at one time, was a very popular choice for winning the Democratic nomination for president as a candidate herself.  At the age of 55, she’s also a younger (than Biden) black woman from the great state of California.  So, it’s not a stretch to consider that this younger Jamaican/Indian woman of mixed ancestry from the western State of California would be an ideal balance to this older white man from the eastern State of Delaware.

Her political experience in the US Senate makes her perhaps the most qualified running mate for a potential Biden ticket and the person most ready to become president if need be.  The Democratic governor of California could easily pick a replacement for her in the US Senate. She would also become the first female and first black Vice-President of the United States — and would be a shoo-in to possibly become president herself the next go ’round.

STACEY ABRAMS

She came “thisclose” to becoming the first female and the first African-American governor of Georgia in 2018 and her political clout in the south is still burning brightly.  The 46-year-old Stacey Abrams is also a graduate of the prestigious Yale Law School and is a political force to be reckoned with.

Rumor has it that Joe Biden wanted to announce Abrams as his choice for a Biden ticket at the same time he announced his candidacy for the presidency — but opted not to do so at the last minute.  So, apparently, Ms. Abrams has already impressed ‘Uncle Joe’ and just might be able to invigorate African-American voters, particularly throughout the south.  Additionally, as the first female and first African-American Vice-President of the United States, she’s young enough to make more history and become the next president after Biden.

JULIAN CASTRO

Since Joe Biden’s super victory on Super Tuesday, political pundits have been pointing out how younger and Latino voters have favored Bernie Sanders over Biden, particularly in California.  So, a Biden ticket could certainly benefit from a young, Latino running mate such as Julian Castro.

After an impressive speech during the Democratic convention in 2012, Barack Obama and other high-profile Democrats predicted Julian and his twin brother, Joaquin, would have a bright future in politics and within the Democratic Party.  Joaquin went on to win election from Texas to the US House of Representatives, while Julian went on to work with Biden in the Obama administration as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

Before running for president himself, 45-year-old Julian Castro was also Mayor of San Antonio, Texas.  He is a graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Law School — but most importantly for a Biden ticket, he is young, he is charismatic, and he is Hispanic.  Just like with Kamala Harris or Stacey Abrams, Joe Biden could make history by naming a Mexican-American as his choice for Vice-President of the United States.

According to The New York Times, if Joe Biden should win the nomination, he will need someone young, preferably female and preferably an ethnic minority female as his running mate.  However, he could also make a deal with Elizabeth Warren and add her to a Biden ticket just to gain the support of progressives.  Or, he could make the extremely unlikely choice of selecting Bernie Sanders in a gesture to unite Democrats and pull the “Bernie-Bros” into his fold.

Reps. Veronica Escobar and Val Demings

Then there’s Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who could (once again) deliver Minnesota for Biden.  Rep. Val Demings — the African-American and female former Orlando Chief of Police who led the Trump impeachment trial for the House might be able to swing Florida for Biden.  Or, how about Rep. Veronica Escobar who could ignite Latinos in Texas to vote for Joe.

Of course, Biden could go completely off kilter and select a Republican such as former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley or former Ohio Gov. John Kasich just to prove to the country that Democrats and Republicans can work together to reunite the nation after the nightmare of the Donald Trump era.

So, who would you like to see on a potential Biden ticket?  Make a selection in the poll below or write in a name of your own choosing.

Now see there DJ dang it..Lol I can’t take your poll because I’m torn. Unlike our choices for a presidential nominee, when it comes to VP choices, we’ve got an embarrassment of riches.

Regular readers know that I’m a huge fan of Stacey Abrams. However, I also think that picking either Warren or Castro would be a great pick. Kamala Harris is 4th on my list.

With his VP pick, Joe Biden has a golden opportunity to show that he has good judgement and a real vision for the future. It’ will be crucial to his ability to move Our country forward, heal a fractured nation and restore Us to some level of good standing and leadership in the world.

Btw- If Biden wins Michigan tomorrow, I think it’ll be safe to say that he’s going to win the nomination.

Mr.BD

Hey Truth I like Stacy Abrams too. But I just looked it up her biggest political experience is being in the Georgia state House of Representatives. I am unsure that is enough to be close to becoming president if something happen to Biden. She should run for congress or maybe get a cabinet job if Biden wins or something like that. She needs some more national experience and exposure.

Truthiz1

Can’t say that I disagree with you BD. I do hope she gains more experience because I think she’s got a lot of promise.

My vote is for Kamala Harris. Like DJ said in the article she is the one qualified to be president if she had to be. Thinking about Joe Bidens age that has to be considered. Plus everybody is talking about this now and saying it has to be a woman and it should be somebody black. My second choice after Kamala is probably Julian Castro. Put a black or latin person on the ticket and all those voters will come out to support.

“Put a black or latin person on the ticket and all those voters will come out to support.”

Yep. Kamala or Julian. But I’m even good with Warren.
