BIGGEST TV MOMENTS

Spread The Love

Television has provided us with some of the most memorable moments throughout history.  From the death of JFK to the election of Barack Obama, TV has proven to be the medium of both good and bad memories.

But what exactly are the biggest moments in television history?  Here are the top 5:

5.) DEATH OF OSAMA BIN LADEN –
In homes and pool halls across the country, Americans were glued to their television screens the moment President Obama announced the capture and killing of the world’s most wanted terrorist!

4.) CHALLENGER SHUTTLE DISASTER –
It was supposed to be an amazing moment in television history, with the launch of the first school teacher into space.  Ordinary Americans and people around the world tuned in to watch the astronauts make the usual walk to the shuttle, board the craft and successfully launch into space.  But few could believe their eyes when the shuttle broke into pieces from an on board explosion, prompting an immediate halt to the space program and days of mourning for the lost heroes.

3.) O.J. SIMPSON VERDICT –

At some point, the O.J. trial stopped being a moment of jurisprudence and became a live, televised soap opera.  When the verdict was announced, Americans crowded around televisions in homes and at storefronts across the nation to hear the historic words: NOT GUILTY!

2.) HURRICANE KATRINA LEVEES –
The hurricane itself captured the attention of a nation.  But the moment the levees broke, causing massive flooding and pushing New Orleans residents onto their roof tops, was the moment most will never forget. Days of devastation followed, with deceased bodies floating through the streets or being left in the open at the New Orleans Superdome.  It was the 2nd most watched moment in television history.

1.) 9/11 –
News of an airplane hitting one of the twin towers in New York City quickly spread, prompting concerned citizens to tune in to be kept up to date.  But when the 2nd plane hit and the towers came tumbling down, Americans from coast to coast literally stopped in their tracks, canceled their day and watched the story unfold for the next several days.  The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 was arguably the most watched moment in television history.
