TGIF: Black Lives Matter Meets Hillary Clinton

It’s the raw video that has gone viral and has everyone talking:  Black Lives Matter meets Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Current Events
Black Lives Matter with HillaryJulius Jones, who heads the Black Lives Matter movement in Boston, caught up with Mrs. Clinton on August 11th following a speech in Keene, NH, catching the carefully calculated presidential candidate off guard and forcing her into an unscripted moment that was all captured on tape.

The Black Lives Matter leader questioned Mrs. Clinton on her past criminal justice policies that wound up harming black Americans.  After listening and nodding for several minutes, Mrs. Clinton then turned the tables, pressing Jones to answer how the Black Lives Movement planned to turn emotion into meaningful change.

“You can get lip service from as many white people you can pack into Yankee Stadium and a million more like it who are going to say: ‘We get it, we get it. We are going to be nicer,’ ” she said. “That’s not enough, at least in my book.”

She then urged Jones to help her come up with a specific “vision and plan.”

“This country has still not recovered from its original sin,” she said, adding that the “next question” is, “So what do you want me to do about it?”

“I don’t believe you change hearts,” Mrs. Clinton continued, in her emotion-filled response to the Black Lives Matter movement. “I believe you change laws, you change allocation of resources, you change the way systems operate.”

The encounter was an important moment in time.  Not only did it display how much racial injustice will be a critical factor in the 2016 Democratic primary and beyond, but it also showed a side of Hillary Clinton that is seldom seen: spontaneous, impassioned and seemingly unconcerned about potential repercussions. If only for a brief moment, the careful, calculated and staged Hillary Clinton the world always sees was missing — and it was glorious!

Check out the exchange for yourself and tell us what you think.

DJ, you've ended this week with yet another "food for thought post." Well done. Okay. You wrote: "it also showed a side of Hillary Clinton that is seldom seen: spontaneous, impassioned and seemingly unconcerned about potential repercussions. If only for a brief moment, the careful, calculated and staged Hillary Clinton the world always sees was missing — and it was glorious! […] I concur with that. And on a related note, I must also say………… As I've expressed before, I'm NOT a fan of *Black Lives Matter.* I do not support ANY group that engages in their own brand of SELECTIVE outrage, be it right-wing hate groups, religious hypocrites, Black Lives Matter, etc. BLM rails against the devastating injustices of America's Criminal Justice system, which as we all know is…and has always been..rooted in racism. The energy behind the movement has grown, prompted by the issue of Black lives taken… Read more »

Hey DJ this has been a really great week of topics. Thank you for some good work. Now I have to disagree again today with my friend Truth on Black Lives Matter movement. No they're not perfect and no they don't go after black on black crimes like Truth said. But they have raised a conversation about police brutality. They have made politicians respect and discuss race relations which is what happened with Hillary. I look at Black lives matter like taking a aspirin. It might not cure all my symptoms or make me well, but if it can get rid of my headache I'm good. BLM is not fixing everything like Truth said but I'm glad they're at least taking on one symptom and keeping it relevant and in the news. TGIF.

Why can it be all lives matter? We are all human beings, created by the same God, and when we all bleed, we bleed the same color blood. It is a shame that we created our own diversity with hate toward each other. It is enough that we have a two party war in the government and there seems to be no stopping point. Let's work together to make America a better place to live.rich

Mon. AUG. 24, 2015 "Angry Mom Calls BS on #BlackLivesMatter, Points Out Double Standard" Peggy Hubbard is tired of hearing about the same stories in the news: The death of a black person due to violence. While that might inspire a good amount of people to raise the #BlackLivesMatter banner, this St. Louis native says not so fast. “You black people, my black people are the f—ing most violent motherf—ers I’ve ever seen in my life,” says Hubbard. Her six minute video on her Facebook page comes in response to the police shooting of an 18-year-old St. Louis teen and the swift call to protest alleged brutality by officers. Cops fatally shot Mansur Ball-Bey after they tried to issue a search warrant. While there’s still question as to whether or not he had a gun (police say he pointed one at them), protesters assembled in the streets for yet another… Read more »

Madamenoire Reader:
They should change the name then…maybe to something like *blacklivesonlymatterwhentakenbycop*…when I hear blacklivesmatter i wish it meant black lives matter no matter who takes that black life…and honestly we as black people should put more value in our black lives so there should be a lot more outrage when a black life takes a black life…[…]
