Bob Barker, TV Game Show Icon, Remembered
The entertainment world is celebrating the life of beloved game show host, Bob Barker of “The Price Is Right.”
Entertainment :
For anyone over 30 who remembers staying home from school and watching daytime television, the name Bob Barker and the phrase “Come On Down” are forever etched in our memory banks. That’s because Barker was perhaps the most beloved and most memorable game show host of all time.
In a career that spanned 5 decades, Barker began hosting “The Price Is Right” on CBS in 1972. His congenial personality combined with the exciting call to “Come On Down” from the late voice announcer Johnny Olsen — and the chance to possibly win a new car — kept Americans in a frenzy. Barker’s reminder to “Help control the pet population. Have your pet spayed or neutered” at the end of every show endured him to pet lovers, as well.
Although he retired from hosting duties and show business in 2007, Barker remained a producer of the popular game show while handing the reigns over to new host, Drew Carey. Additionally, CBS named the studio where the show originates after him.
The beloved Barker passed away last week at the ripe age of 99. He will be missed by television fans of yesteryear remembering the good ol’ days of daytime TV game shows.

Game show host Bob Barker is remembered.
Oh wow! I didn’t know he passed away.
I was never into game shows. My mom wasn’t into them either. She was into the daytime drama shows “All My Children,” “One To Live” and “General Hospital” were her favorites.
My maternal grandmother didn’t watch game shows too often but when she did it was “The Price Is Right ”
May he Rest in Peace.
