Border Crossing Will Separate Families | Children
The Trump administration is giddy with excitement over its new plan to deter illegal border crossings by detaining all children and separating all families.
Current Events
In what is being labeled as inhumane and overly aggressive tactics, Trump and his cronies announced plans to divide and conquer all illegal immigrants coming across the (Mexico) border. Under their plan, if children attempt a solo crossing into the US they will be immediately taken to a military base. Likewise, if any families attempt a group crossing into the US, the children will be separated from their parents and all involved will be immediately taken to separate military bases.
According to a Defense Department official, Trump believes the trauma of separating children from their parents will be so great, families will nix any attempts to cross the border and simply stay in their own country.
Although illegal crossings at the US-Mexico border are at an all-time low, Donald Trump remains hell-bent on pressing forward with his family separation and “Build That Wall” ideas. Staffers inside the Department of Health and Human Services have already begun informally looking at 3 detainee sites in Texas and 1 in Little Rock, Arkansas so as to make the separation emotionally unbearable.
On Tuesday, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen defended the new policy that will result in countless families being separated at the border, claiming similar separations happen in the US “every day.”
“Our policy is if you break the law, we will prosecute you,” Nielsen said. “You have an option to go to a port of entry and not illegally cross into our country.”
Nielsen did not comment on why the new policy will almost exclusively target brown people (Mexicans and those south of the border) and will skip being implemented at the US-Canadian boundary as well.
I don’t even know what to say about this. In one way it’s a better idea than Trumps billion dollar wall. But in another way it is real cruel to children who could get traumatized for life over being split from their family.
