Boy Scouts Approve Gay Membership
Last week, the Boy Scouts of America voted to admit gay scouts into their ranks. For them it was a controversial but ultimately necessary step. For gay Americans it was yet another move forward in their desire for equality. But for the rest of us, it was a lesson in semantics.
A resolution at the BSA’s annual meeting last week in Texas was approved, reading:
“No youth may be denied membership in the Boy Scouts of America on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone.”
Although the ruling was necessary for legal reasons, it is somewhat comical. The fact the BSA needed to vote to allow gay scouts in is to assume that every single Boy Scout in America must be heterosexual. However, we all know (or at least those of us with common sense) that that is scientifically impossible.
Gay people are everywhere and in every walk of life. They don’t always walk around wearing a sign that says “Hey everybody, I’m gay,” so it’s often easy for them to blend in with anyone else. There are gay priests, gay politicians, gay rappers, actors, singers and sports players. There are gay military members, gay corporate CEO’s, gay waiters and yes…even gay Boy Scouts.
The fact some group of individuals had to “vote them in” when they were already in is laughable!

Uh-huh. That about sums it up.
