Brett Kavanaugh Confirmation Is NOT A Slam Dunk!
- Will he or won't he be confirmed? TAKE OUR POLL!
The Republican-led Congress was all too eager to quickly push through the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh last Friday — and then Sen. Jeff Flake happened!

Before Dr. Christine Blasey Ford had even uttered a single syllable of testimony, the good ol’ boys (read: conservative white men) of the US Senate had already made up their minds. They walked into the room already believing that Dr. Ford was lying, that her claims were a political ploy by the liberal Democrats to obstruct, and that staging a hearing for the sake of theatrics then pushing through a Yea vote and catching the 8pm flight out of Reagan National back to their perspective districts for a relaxing weekend was all but a mere formality.
Hold on there, cowboys. Not so fast!
The words from Dr. Ford were credible. The accounts from multiple other women who have since come forward with damning evidence against Judge Brett Kavanaugh were enough to plant the seeds of doubt. The Daytime Emmy-like performance from Kavanaugh (complete with a series of non-answers, angry retorts and choked-back tears) was entertaining. However, in the end, right prevailed. It somehow always does.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Committee Chairman Sen. Charles Grassley began Friday morning with a smirk that they had the necessary votes to push their golden boy, Brett Kavanaugh, through. Even if they lost 1 “on the fence” Republican, VP Mike Pence would be at the ready to come in, break the tie and save the day.
Then Ana Maria Archila and Maria Gallagher happened!
The 2 women, who are today being referred to as heroins, are lauded for cornering Sen. Jeff Flake on a Senate elevator and reading him the riot act over his expected decision to vote Yes on the accused Kavanaugh.
“What you are doing is allowing someone who actually violated a woman to sit on the Supreme Court. This is not tolerable. You have children in your family. Think about them. I have two children,” Ana Maria Archila yelled at Flake. “I cannot imagine that for the next 50 years they will have to have someone on the Supreme Court who has been accused of violating a young girl. What are you doing, sir?”
.
.
“I was sexually assaulted and nobody believed me,” Maria Gallagher wailed through tears against Flake. “I didn’t tell anyone and you’re telling all women that they don’t matter, that they should just stay quiet because if they tell you what happened to them you are going to ignore them. That’s what happened to me, and that’s what you are telling all women in America, that they don’t matter. They should just keep it to themselves because if they have told the truth you’re just going to help that man to power anyway.”
What happened next was a miracle.
A visibly shaken Sen. Flake borrowed a “Maverick” move in the spirit of the late Sen. John McCain, stood up to the entire wall of white and mostly male Republican lawmakers, and insisted that the FBI do their due diligence before handing a lifetime appointment to an accused sexual predator.
The lessons of Justice Clarence Thomas would not be repeated. A woman would not be told (yet again) to just shut up and go away. Another white male would not be allowed to get away with heinous acts then handed the powers of the kingdom.
Ana Maria Archila prevailed.
Maria Gallagher prevailed.
Sen. Jeff Flake prevailed.
For at least the time being, JUSTICE prevailed!

IF, in fact, an investigation is actually underway (and not just a pretense of one) then I wholeheartedly share that sentiment. There are troubling signs that “the fix” may be in. But we shall see.
The whole issue has been grossly mishandled by the leaders of both parties for cynically partisan reasons because Neither side is actually interested in Truth and Facts. For them. it’s just about Power.
Trump and the Repubs remain hell bent on getting Kavanaugh confirmed. Absent any absolutely concrete evidence backing up Dr. Ford’s allegations, I think it highly probable he’ll get just enough votes to be confirmed.
