After police shot and killed an unarmed black man in London a few days ago, an uprising has literally swept through parts of the United Kingdom. From London, to Birmingham, to Manchester, people have taken to the streets to protest the unprovoked shooting death of Mark Duggan.
The news media has primarily reported the street protests as young trouble makers looting, burning down buildings and creating a riot. But there is another side to the story.
Darcus Howe is a respected writer and journalist in England. He is also an older black man who has seen much in his years on earth. During a recent television interview on the BBC in London, Mr. Howe described the uprising in ways most media outlets have refused to — including the network interviewing him.
