BUYER’S REMORSE?
The day Mitt Romney announced he had selected the ultra-conservative congressman Paul Ryan to be his running mate, many heavy hitters within the Republican Party were about as giddy as a Girl Scout on cookie day. After all, Ryan was “their” man —one of “them” — which meant that Romney had given in to adopting their side and their themes. All was RIGHT (pun intended) with the world.
But only days after the big selection, many top Republicans are having second thoughts and a bit of buyer’s remorse.
The GOP wants to turn the nation red with conservatism. They also want Barack Obama fumigated out of the White House. But it appears the smarty-pants inside the GOP just figured out a huge dilemma: they can’t have both!
The only way to run the Obama’s out of the White House is to put together a coalition of Independents, Hispanics and “Reagan Democrats” to pull the Republican lever on election day. But the only way to appeal to Independents, Hispanics and “Reagan Democrats” is for Mitt Romney to campaign and promise to govern more middle of the road, instead of ultra conservative. But the addition of Paul Ryan and his record totally negates that option.
So, it appears Republicans may have just painted themselves into a political corner (the far right) with the selection of Paul Ryan. They thought they could have their cake and eat it too, but now, reality has set in.
A Romney-Ryan ticket is a dream come true for the conservative philosophy, but it’s a nightmare scenario for winning back the White House.
Lol. I will admit. A presidential campaign season that seemed to me to be a real snoozer, with the President on track to win re-elction (PRIOR to the Ryan VP pick) has suddenly come ALIVE for me WITH the Ryan pick…and the President REMAINS on track to be re-elected. Still. As I stated the other day, the Dems should NOT take anything for granted and assume that_just bcause Ryan's right-wing views/policies coming under closer scrutiny and some Repubs now publicly voicing real concern about their ticket_it's going to be a cakewalk. It. Isn't. The President should stay the course as the UNDERDOG and fight like h*ll to make his case to the American people pointing out the OBVIOUS differences in vision (via his policies) for the future of this country. Btw: here are a few more related stories…….Politico: "Paul Ryan no help to Mitt Romney with Hispanics" Mitt Romney is on track to lose the Latino vote by a wider margin than any Republican presidential candidate in over a decade,… Read more »
