CAN WE LOSE THE GUNS?
Following a week of angry citizens utilizing their constitutional right to carry a gun anywhere, including within the vicinity of the President of the United States, Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) called on the Homeland Security Department and the U.S. Secret Service to create tighter restrictions on citizens carrying weapons, openly or concealed, while near President Barack Obama.
`
Norton, who sits on the Homeland Security Committee, made the request after numerous people boldly brandished firearms while outside of events recently attended by Mr. Obama. And it only makes logical sense. If the Secret Service can temporarily clear all aircraft from nearby air space when the President is in the vicinity, or TSA can stop a traveler from carrying so much as a nail file onto a commercial airplane, then the agency can surely make sure guns are never anywhere near the President of the United States.
