Capitol Hill Insurrection: One Year Later

Spread The Love

On January 6, 2021, Donald Trump and his MAGA misfits breached security and successfully attacked the US Capitol.  It was one of the darkest days in American history.  Now, exactly one later, Democrats and Republicans will commemorate the horrific Capitol Hill insurrection in very different ways.

According to The White House, President Biden and Vice President Harris will commence the day with remarks at 9 am from inside Statuary Hall on The Hill.  Particularly, the president will highlight the “historical significance” of the day as well as address “what it means for the country one year later.”

Capitol Hill Insurrection

“The president is going to speak to the truth of what happened, not the lies that some have spread since, and the peril it has posed to the rule of law and our system of democratic governance,” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said at a press briefing Tuesday.

Mr. Biden will also preview the “work we still need to do to secure and strengthen our democracy and our institutions to reject hatred and lies,” Psaki added.

Other events of the day will include a moment of silence, first-hand testimonies from lawmakers who hid for their lives as the US seat of government was under attack, a panel discussion with historians, and a prayer vigil on the Capitol steps. These events will each be covered by all major news networks throughout the day.

As for Republicans, a bitter and belittled Donald Trump was to be the GOP “leader” and “commemorate” the day exactly in the way that one would expect — as a childish egomaniac.

Trump’s plans included a celebration of his near demise of democracy with a speech/news conference from Mar-a-Lago that was to occur at the precise moment President Biden was speaking.  He wanted “Make America January 6 Again” hats, a balloon arch, pigs in a blanket hot dogs (and maybe even horsie rides for the kids!).

Trump’s motive was to ruin Mr. Biden’s remarks by offering alternative programming that he hoped would lure viewers from the actual president and place all attention on himself.

Capitol Hill Insurrection

Yes, leave it to Trump to come up with the most outlandish and least savvy idea possible.

However, while planning his alternative “gotcha” program, Donald Trump realized one very important problem.  He remembered he was banned from all social media and had no real online outlet with which to present his speech. Additionally, all the major news networks (sans Faux News) had no interest in his words and were only willing to cover the official events of the day.

Still, Trump ran into one more very specific and unexpected roadblock: pushback from his own party and sycophants.

Trump-flunkie Sen. Lindsay Graham recognized that allowing Donald Trump in front of a microphone spewing lies on the exact anniversary of the Capitol Hill insurrection was a train wreck waiting to happen.  So, he urged ‘The Donald’ to reconsider his plans by explaining “there could be peril in doing a news conference.”

Even Fox’s Laura Ingraham used her Monday night show to signal that she also thought the whole thing was a dumpster fire of an idea.

While on-air, Ingraham psychologically asked the “hypothetical” question: “Some things were horrific that happened and shouldn’t have happened that day… Is it smart for President Trump to do a rally on that particular day, versus next week or the week before?”

In the end, the conservative cronies somehow got through to Trump and convinced him to make whatever remarks he chooses during a planned event in Arizona on Saturday and NOT on January 6th.

Capitol Hill Insurrection

Or, could it be that the calculating and contesting Trump recognized that he’d look even smaller and more insignificant than he already is by attempting to compete against the President of the United States during the national commemoration of the January 6th Capitol Hill insurrection?

Oh, poor Donald. Boo-hoo!

I am sorry I missed that. Chicago is one hour ahead so I was deep in some work. I tried to catch a little of it at my desk but did not see much. I am going to look for it on You tube after work. From what I heard Biden went in swinging.

My heart goes out to ALL those who put their very lives in danger to save Our country and protect Our democracy!

I cannot fathom the unimaginable horror they faced that day and what they have suffered since that day (PTSD, major depression, suicide, etc).

Mr.BD

Why is it all these Repubs are out of town for a funeral at the same time today? It looks like they did not want this smoke. Lol

Mr.BD

I really want to hear what Kamala said. My coworker is telling me Biden had to wipe away a tear. But I will never forget this day last year. I was working from home because of Covid and was going to go to the gym. This story came on tv and it started getting worse and worse. I never made it to the gym and still had my work out clothes on when they finally finished counting votes at 3:00.
