IF GAYS ARE ALLOWED TO MARRY, THE CATHOLIC CHURCH WILL NO LONGER FEED THE HOMELESS!
That according to the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington, DC, which threatened last week that it will discontinue its social service programs including feeding the homeless within the District if the city goes forward with a proposed law to permit same-sex marriages — a threat that could potentially affect tens of thousands of people the church assists with adoption, homelessness and health care.
So if the Catholic church can threaten to hold food for the innocent homeless at ransom if they don’t get “their way,” what’s next? No more babies get to be baptized unless the city changes the speed limit? No funerals allowed at the church until the local grocer halts double-bagging?? Where does the madness end???
So far, Washington, DC city leaders are not at all moved by the threat. Said one City Council member, “it would be dangerous to let the Catholic church start writing D.C. laws.”
The Catholic Church should worry more about their own gay priests and less about gay marriage.
The church is providing a volunteer service to the community which it doesn't have to do. So they do have every right to remove their services from a city that goes against the teachings of the church. It's too bad for the homeless and others in that region, but perhaps the city might reconsider their stringent position on gay marriages and save their social programs.
