Charlamagne Tha God Talks To Kamala Harris
Vice President Kamala Harris spoke with Charlamagne Tha God on Tuesday. Here are the top takeaways from that all-important interview.
Politics :
In case you’re unaware, Charlamagne Tha God hosts the popular radio show THE BREAKFAST CLUB. With over 4.5 million mostly African-American listeners per week, the Harris camp sought to shake things up a bit and display a greater connection to the minority electorate.
The Audio TownHall between Charlamagne and Kamala Harris was hosted live in Detroit by iHeartMedia and gave the vice president a much-needed opportunity to speak directly to Black male voters — a group that has been strangely trending toward Trump — ahead of the election.
“This is a margin-of-error race. It’s tight. I’m gonna win. I’m gonna win, but it’s tight,” she told listeners before diving into a list of topics she hoped would resonate with Black men.
In what could invigorate Black voters but alienate others, Ms. Harris said she believes slavery reparations must be studied. She didn’t fully endorse an actual plan but did suggest the idea is a possibility that should be considered. She also promoted legalizing recreational marijuana.
“My pledge is that as president, I will work on decriminalizing it because I know exactly how those laws have been used to disproportionately impact certain populations and specifically Black men,” Ms. Harris said.
When Charlamagne denounced Donald Trump’s agenda as “fascist,” Vice President Harris agreed with him 100% and concurred that voters should call out Trump’s BS as they see it.
“Part of the challenge that I face is that they are trying to scare people away because they know they otherwise have nothing to run on,” the vice president said. “Ask Donald Trump what his plan is for Black America. Ask him.”
Ms. Harris then went on to defend her record and argued that “mis- and disinformation” has deeply distorted her reality.
For example, a rumor is circulating that she will not do anything specifically for Black Americans if elected. However, Ms. Harris debunked that claim, saying “That’s just not true.” She went on to add that the distortion of her record and values is “purposeful because it is meant to convince people that they somehow should not believe that the work that I have done has occurred and has meaning.”
In response to criticism from Donald Trump’s claims that she lacks engagement with the Black church, Ms. Harris responded by speaking about growing up in the Black church and attending the 23rd Avenue Church of God in Oakland, California.
“I know where our church and MY church is about saying true leadership, the measure of that is based on who you lift up,” Ms. Harris said before challenging Trump on his alleged “Black” connection.
“He’s selling $60 Bibles or tennis shoes and trying to play people, as though that makes him more understanding of the Black community. Come on.”
In a lighter moment, the vice president mocked Donald Trump for cutting off all questions at a Town Hall in Oaks, Pennsylvania only 4 questions after it began. He then played nearly 40 minutes of music while staring into space and sometimes “dancing” in front of his confused crowd.
“Who the hell wants to hear questions?” Trump said at the event that was created to take audience questions.
Harris also laughed at Maya Rudolph’s “spot on” impersonation of her on this season’s SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE.
“Hasn’t Maya Rudolph been wonderful?” Ms. Harris said. “I have nothing but admiration for comedy, and I think it’s important to be able to laugh at yourself and each other in the spirit of, obviously, comedy and not belittling people as my opponent does.”
Following Tuesday’s Charlamagne Tha God interview, Kamala Harris will voluntarily step into the lion’s den on Wednesday in a risky interview with Brett Baier on Fox News.

Kamala Harris interview with Charlamagne Tha God.
New York Times: Vice President Kamala Harris agreed on Tuesday with the radio host Charlamagne Tha God that former President Donald J. Trump was a fascist, going a step further than she had before in casting her Republican rival as a dangerous authoritarian leader. During a free-flowing interview that often spoke to the concerns of Black Americans, Ms. Harris was contrasting her vision for the nation with Mr. Trump’s when Charlamagne jumped in to say: “The other is about fascism. Why can’t we just say it?” “Yes, we can say that,” Ms. Harris replied. Her comments came days after it was revealed that Mark A. Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Mr. Trump, had called the former president “a fascist to the core,” according to a new book from the journalist Bob Woodward.
