CHRIS BROWN BEGS FOR SUPPORT
In the year since his 2009 assault on ex-girlfriend Rihanna, the (former) Prince of Pop Chris Brown has resorted to desperate measures to stage what some industry insiders are calling a near improbable comeback.
The 20-year-old performer, who plead guilty to felony assault and is on probation for 5 years after attacking Rihanna prior to the 2009 Grammy Awards, has been vying for a way to revitalize his rapidly receding career. With record sales at an all time low and a once thriving career now in extremely critical condition, Brown recorded an audio message last week on the celebrity website Say Now asking fans to “bring him back.” Sounding humbled, Brown said he desperately needs his fans’ help. “Some radio stations aren’t playing my records,” he said. “They’re not being that supportive and I wouldn’t expect them to. But it’s on the fans…It’s in your power to bring me back.”
Brown said he is doing everything he can do and referred to himself as a “better person,” but added that his career is in jeopardy. “It won’t be possible for me to be an artist if I don’t have support from people who give me an artist outlet,” Brown said. “I can’t be an underground mixtape artist.”
Brown said. "I can't be an underground mixtape artist."PULeeeze! As if Serious music-lovers (like Me) who listen to "underground" music written-produced and sang by some of the most INCREDIBLY talented Independent artists on the planet would waste a second of our life listening to music by Chris Brown even BEFORE the assault incident..??!I suspect what's happening with Brown's so-called "fan-base" speaks to the reality of "fan-base loyalty" for most mainstream "Corporate created" music perfromers. Fan loyalty is "weak" at best_and why wouldn't it be(?) given that "Corporate-created" performers are "a dime-a-dozen and can be found on any street corner."
