Christie Should Resign, Or Be Recalled

Resign, Chris Christie — or face a recall.

That’s the message 6 New Jersey newspapers delivered to the governor, following his endorsement last week of Donald Trump for the GOP presidential nomination.

Politics
No ChristieAfter months of campaigning against him, Christie surprised just about everyone in his state when he declared that Trump is suddenly the best man to become Commander-In-Chief. Now, many New Jersey residents are scratching their heads as to how Trump went from being loathed to loved by Christie in just a matter of days. The fact that Trump is being widely criticized by the Republican establishment for failing to distance himself from former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, makes Christie’s endorsement that much more puzzling.

Among the papers calling for the governor to step aside are the Asbury Park Press, the Cherry Hill Courier-Post and the Daily Record of Morristown. In a collective editorial, they wrote:

What an embarrassment. What an utter disgrace.

We’re fed up with Gov. Chris Christie’s arrogance.

We’re fed up with his opportunism.

We’re fed up with his hypocrisy.

We’re fed up with his sarcasm.

We’re fed up with his long neglect of the state to pursue his own selfish agenda.

We’re disgusted with his endorsement of Donald Trump after he spent months on the campaign trail trashing him, calling him unqualified by temperament and experience to be president.

And we’re fed up with his continuing travel out-of-state on New Jersey’s dime, stumping for Trump, after finally abandoning his own presidential campaign.

For the good of the state, it’s time for Christie to do his long-neglected constituents a favor and resign as governor. If he refuses, citizens should initiate a recall effort.

Politics
Interestingly, the New Jersey papers are not the only ones calling for him to step aside, as New Hampshire’s most influential newspaper was also vexed by Christie’s full-throated support of Trump.

After endorsing Christie in November and ahead of the state’s primary, the New Hampshire Union Leader said they believed he was “the one candidate who has the range and type of experience the nation desperately needs.” The editorial board also liked that he vowed he would never endorse Trump. Now, the newspaper is saying “boy, were we wrong.”

In the words of the Union Leader’s publisher, Joseph McQuaid, Christie went back on his word and the paper is forced to wipe “the egg off our face” for endorsing him.

Christie with Trump“Rather than standing up to the bully, Christie bent his knee. In doing so, he rejected the very principles of his campaign that attracted our support,” the editorial said.

According to the 6 New Jersey papers, Gov. Christie spent 261 days out-of-state last year campaigning. Now, he continues to travel with and support Trump after quitting his own presidential bid on February 10th. That can’t be good for conducting the business of New Jersey.

So far, it appears Christie is kissing up to Trump and jockeying for a position in a potential Trump administration. However, the governor is downplaying those assumptions. “I am the person with the most experience in government that is in his circle,” Christie said during an interview last Monday on New Jersey 101.5 radio. “And so as a result, that gives me some credibility to make recommendations and suggestions over time where appropriate and for him to consider.”

Then the governor pat himself on the back and boasted of his own influence, saying that he’s the “highest level endorser that Donald Trump has had.”

About 2 weeks ago I gave Trump credit for doing One,,,and only One…good thing during his presidential run. He has totally unmasked the Republican party – what the party really stands for, the kinds of politicians put forth as *the best and brightest* within that party AND the kinds of of base-voters the GOPe has cultivated over the years for political and monetary gain, especially at the state and local levels. Which brings me to Chris Christie – a "Trump" kinda guy if ever I saw one. Like Trump, Chris Christie is, IMO, a fat-mouth political opportunist and FAKE-azz Alpha dog w/an authoritarian attitude who struts around (mostly) denigrating and bullying people all the day long…in service to himself..and only Himeself. Chris Chrsitie is also a typical Repub Governor in that his governorship has proven to be not just an "embarrassment" but also an unmitigated Disaster. (SEE also the colossal… Read more »
