I have so many friends who have stopped going to church over this exact reason. Church is a big business and since anybody can start one and make tax free money there's a lot of scam churches out there, especially on TV. Too bad God is being used by a lot of so called churches to scam people out of money. And when these people are giving away their rent money and can't afford the tithes that's even worse.

THIS subject screams "PROSPERITY Gospel."

As one researcher put it:
The prosperity gospel movement closely resembles some of the destructive greed sects that infiltrated the early church. Paul and the other apostles were not accommodating to or conciliatory with the false teachers who propagated such heresy. They identified them as dangerous false teachers and urged Christians to avoid them. […]

Don't even get me started on the church folk who allow themselves to be played by those charlatans!

Frankly, over the years it has boggled my mind at just how EASY it is to get so many Americans to part with their hard-earned money!?! …especially working-class people who identify as Christians and AREN'T rich by any stretch of he imagination. It is both amazing and quite sad because it speaks to the gullibility of so many people, in America.

The truth is, in my church adult members are encouraged to pay tithes and offering. But it's "Free will" …meaning it's Up.To.You.

You're NOT penalized or ostracized if you don't give. Period.

Oh and we've never had a "building fund." In fact, I had never heard the term until I was grown and a friend of mine happened to mention it. But I digress.

Little or much…in my church, whatever you give, you give because you want to.

And we're not hurting for money.
