Ms. Tyson’s body of work is beyond extraordinary. She earned an Oscar nomination for her groundbreaking role in the film “Sounder.” In 2013, she received a Tony Award at the age of 88 for Broadway’s “A Trip To Bountiful.” She delivered a break-out performance in “The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman,” an emotional and earthy appearance in “Roots,” and absolute greatness as the mother of Annalise Keating in “How To Get Away With Murder,” among so much more.
“With a heavy heart, the family of Miss Cicely Tyson announces her peaceful transition this afternoon,” her manager, Larry Thompson said via a statement. “At this time, please allow the family their privacy.”
Ms. Tyson was a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors in 2015 and President Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016. Her memoir, “Just As I Am” was published only this past week.

“The world is mourning the loss of 2 acting greats: Cicely Tyson and Cloris Leachman. ” – DJ
Thankfully the world is giving the passing of these 2 Americans legends some ell deserved attention because, from what little I’ve seen, CNN and MSNBC can barely give their passing a mention. As they continue be consumed by Trump and all things related to Trump (directly and indirectly) every minute if every day, 7 days a week. Just infuriating. But I digress.
As DJ rightly expressed: “Ms. Tyson’s body of work is beyond extraordinary. ” And…….
“You never knew what Cloris was going to say or do and that unpredictable quality was part of her unparalleled magic.”
May they both Rest in Peace.
