Clapper: ‘This Is
Worse Than Watergate’
The long-awaited testimony from former FBI Director James Comey takes place in Washington today. However, the words of another former government official drew a great deal of attention on the eve of the Comey appearance.

During a speech at the National Press Club in Australia on Wednesday, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper gave a rather damning opinion of what he thinks of the potential collusion scandal involving Donald Trump, Michael Flynn and Russia: Watergate looks like nothing compared to this!
Speaking of the historic scandal that brought down President Richard Nixon, Clapper said he believes that Trump’s apparent crisis is scarier than any political scandal he has ever seen.
“I lived through Watergate … It was a scary time,” Clapper said.
“It was a scary time. I have to say, though — I think if you compare the two, Watergate pales really in my view compared to what we’re confronting now.”
Clapper added that Donald Trump has been leading an “assault” on American institutions, particularly the intelligence community that he has repeatedly deprecated to the public.
“I am very concerned about the assault on our institutions coming from both an external source, read Russia, and an internal source, the President himself,” Clapper said.
He then added a shocking bombshell.
Clapper said that in January, Donald Trump asked him to publicly “refute” an intelligence dossier published by BuzzFeed News claiming that Vladimir Putin has been blackmailing Trump for years and feeding him information about his rivals.
“I tried, naively it turned out, to appeal to his higher instincts,” Clapper said.
“Ever transactional, he simply asked me to publicly refute the infamous dossier, which I could not and would not do.”
The dossier alleged that Donald Trump frequently engaged in “urination” games with Russian prostitutes, as well as other details regarding his finances and connections to Russian oligarchs.

Meanwhile, as James Comey prepares to deliver a damaging claim of obstruction of justice against Donald Trump, the approval rating of the White House occupant has dropped to a historic low.
According to a new Quinnipiac poll released Wednesday, Trump’s approval rating has dipped to 34%. Interestingly, 57% of surveyed voters say they do not approve of the job Trump is doing in office. When Quinnipiac University polled Trump’s popularity in mid-May, 37% approved compared to 55% who disapproved.
Wednesday’s survey marks a new low for Trump’s approval rating in Quinnipiac’s polling. His previous low was 35% on April 4th.
This latest poll, combined with the words of James Clapper and James Comey on Wednesday paint a very clear picture: we are watching the slow crumble and eventual end of Donald Trump!

I'm probably in the minority on this but I do think it unfortunate that a lot of Comey's testimony today was already leaked to the news media yesterday.
There's a risk this whole event today has been over-hyped by the media, raising all kinds of Unreasonable expectations – and the Dems will fall for it and overplay their hand.
I hope I'm wrong but We shall see.
