CNN anchor Don Lemon was attacked by some celebrities and media personalities, for comments he made regarding race and African-Americans following the George Zimmerman verdict. Now, Lemon is fighting back.
Some of the harshest words against Lemon came from hip-hop music mogul Russell Simmons, who chastised the African-American anchor for having a “slave” mentality and for being an “Uncle Tom.” Simmons also took Lemon to task for being critical of the “saggy pants” style among African-American youth, equating it to afros and dashiki’s from the 1970’s.
With millions of worldwide viewers tuning into CNN, Lemon could have used his television platform to pounce on Russell Simmons and others. Instead, Lemon took the high road and, in a televised “open letter,” he dismantled much of the commentary against him piece by piece. It was a near master class in public response.
