Cohen Testimony Torches Donald Trump
The Michael Cohen testimony before a congressional committee just might be the final nail in the political coffin for Donald Trump. Or, to put it bluntly, the proverbial ‘shit’ may have just hit the fan.
Politics
In perhaps the most damning bit of evidence to date, former Trump friend and “fixer” Michael Cohen told a US House Oversight Committee on Wednesday that despite claims to the contrary, ‘The Donald’ did indeed commit “illicit” acts before and during his time in The White House.
Trump’s friend-turned-enemy spent 9 hours on Tuesday testifying in a closed-door session before the House Intelligence Committee. Suffice it to say, the public Cohen testimony was full of surprises.
Cohen informed the committee about Trump’s knowledge of his longtime associate Roger Stone “talking with Julian Assange about a WikiLeaks drop of Democratic National Committee emails.”
According to Cohen: “Mr. Stone told Mr. Trump that he had just gotten off the phone with Julian Assange and that Mr. Assange told Mr. Stone that, within a couple of days, there would be a massive dump of emails that would damage Hillary Clinton’s campaign.”
The Cohen testimony also included a shocking copy of the $130,000 wire transfer Trump ordered be sent to former stripper Stormy Daniels, whom he had an extramarital affair with and wanted to silence during the 2016 presidential election.
However, perhaps no words from Cohen were more damaging to Donald Trump than these:
“I am ashamed that I chose to take part in concealing Mr. Trump’s illicit acts rather than listening to my own conscience,” Cohen said. “I am ashamed because I know what Mr. Trump is…” adding, “He is a racist. He is a con man. He is a cheat.”
Donald Trump reportedly watched the Cohen testimony while in Vietnam for another “summit” with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. As if like clockwork, ‘The Donald’ had his press flunkie Sarah Sanders issue a predictable statement claiming that Cohen (like anyone who ever accuses Trump of anything) is lying.
“Disgraced felon Michael Cohen is going to prison for lying to Congress and making other false statements. Sadly, he will go before Congress this week and we can expect more of the same. It’s laughable that anyone would take a convicted liar like Cohen at his word, and pathetic to see him given yet another opportunity to spread his lies,” Sanders said.
In a surprise twist to the Cohen testimony, Republican congressman and Trump ally Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida issued a direct threat to Cohen via Twitter.
“Hey @MichaelCohen212,” Gaetz tweeted on Tuesday afternoon before deleting it out of embarrassment. “Do your wife & father-in-law know about your girlfriends? Maybe tonight would be a good time for that chat. I wonder if she’ll remain faithful when you’re in prison. She’s about to learn a lot…”
Hmmm…
Rest assured, the Cohen testimony is merely the appetizer, as the Mueller report is near completion and rumored to be released to Congress any day now.
Stay tuned!
I saw only bits and pieces of this yesterday. But from what I saw it looked like all the Repubs kept trying to protect Trump as much as possible. What ever happen to putting country first? All they seem concern about was protecting Trump. I guess he was right when he said he could shoot somebody and his people would back him up.
