Congresswoman Liz Cheney Leaves Congress

Spread The Love

Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney of Wyoming has been reminded of a lesson she was well prepared for and already knew: going against Donald Trump has its consequences.

Politics :
On Tuesday, incumbent Rep. Liz Cheney was defeated by challenger Harriet Hageman (a hand-picked candidate by Donald Trump who was chosen to run solely out of spite to destroy Cheney) in the Wyoming Republican primary. Since Wyoming is traditionally a Republican state, it’s almost a no-brainer that Hageman will be elected to the US House of Representatives in the November general election and replace Liz Cheney in January of 2023 as the latest Trump sycophant.

Dick Cheney and Liz Cheney

Congresswoman Liz Cheney, who is the daughter of former VP Dick Cheney, is a stalwart conservative and deeply popular politician within her state. However, despite her credentials, she has been the leading Republican on Capitol Hill to refuse to regurgitate the lie that Trump won in 2020. She has also refused to look the other way regarding Trump’s involvement in the January 6th Capitol Hill insurrection, his theft of classified documents upon leaving office, and more.

The marching orders given to Republican voters are that they all MUST accept and agree with any and everything Donald Trump says or does — even if they don’t really believe it and are just pretending.

Liz Cheney refused to be THAT Republican and decided to choose democracy and love of country over party and political partisanship.

In her televised concession speech on Tuesday night, Rep. Cheney reminded America that she won her last election in 2018 with more than 73% of the vote — and could have done so again (had she opted to sell out to Donald Trump).

“But it would’ve required that I go along with President Trump’s lie about the 2020 election,” she said. “That was a path I could not and would not take.

“No House seat, no office in this land is more important than the principles that we are all sworn to protect,” she continued. “And I well understood the potential political consequences of abiding by my view, our republic relies upon the goodwill of all candidates for office to accept honorably the outcome of elections.

“Tonight, Harriet Hageman has received the most votes in this primary. She won. I called her to concede the race. This primary election is over. But now the real work begins,” she concluded.

What’s next politically for Liz Cheney is a mystery nobody knows. She’s too anti-Trump to remain viable inside the Republican Party and too conservative to switch to the Democratic Party. So, it looks as if her political career may very well be over. However, she still has nearly 5 months remaining as the high-profile co-chair of the House Select Committee investigating Donald Trump and the events of the Capitol Hill insurrection — a role she can use to launch her next effort.

So, kudos to Congresswoman Liz Cheney for sacrificing her political life to do what’s right in the name of democracy. How many other politicians would walk the walk and actually do the same?

Absolutely spot on DJ! She knew darn well what she was risking! But she did it anyway because as she so eloquently stated during her concession speech last night:

“I love my party. But I love My country more!”

Honestly, her whole speech was outstanding, if you ask me. Filled with historical but also quite timely references. And I may be reading the tea leaves wrong but my guess is….

This loss is actually the beginning of something much bigger for Liz Cheney!

I thought that too. I wonder what her next step will be?

Politico: Last July, Wyoming Republican Harriet Hageman drove seven hours from her home in Cheyenne to Jackson to meet with a major donor who wanted her to wage a primary campaign against Donald Trump’s top nemesis, GOP Rep. Liz Cheney. When Hageman arrived for the breakfast meeting the following morning, she was greeted by a surprise guest: former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows. Hageman had heard from an array of Wyoming Republicans urging her to take on Cheney. But Meadows was dialing up the pitch, making the case for Hageman to jump in and putting her on the phone with Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, another staunch Trump ally who reinforced the point. After leaving the breakfast, Meadows called Trump and encouraged him to meet with the soon-to-be candidate, according to a person familiar with the discussion. The episode illustrates Trump’s all-encompassing role in the effort to oust… Read more »

We knew Trump, his treasonous sycophants and gutless flunkies (like Meadows) would probably win this round so not that surprised. But he/they had better savor this win because I don’t think they have any idea what they’ve probably done by ousting Liz from her congressional seat…smh!

The “Cheney” name is still very popular and very powerful among a “certain” very rich and powerful “Conservative” (NOT MAGA) faction of what used to be the Republican party.

But time will surely tell.

I’ve already shared my thoughts on what i think lies ahead for Liz Cheney. The lady’s not done with politics and serving her country. Not by a long shot.

But here’s what’s got me shook …(nervous laugher) The woman has shown me so much grit, Courage, and integrity being on the Jan 6 Committee, NOT backing down from Trump and willing to risk her entire political career to try to save Our country and Our democracy she’s got me contemplating – What if she runs for president?!!!

Hey Truth, I cannot see her running for president. Repubs would not back her just like yesterday and the Dems would not want her because she is too conservative. If she tried to run independent that would only take votes from both the parties. I think she might become a cabinet secretary or something like that where she does not have to be elected anymore.

Truthiz1

BD, my good friend, I’m gonna have to respectfully disagree with you on this one.

Now mind you, I’m not saying she’s going to run. I’m saying she’s got me wondering IF she’s going to run. Because you see BD, for her, it’s not about who will or won’t vote for her. She just proved that her mission now is bigger than that!

If Trump decides to run, there’s no doubt in my mind she’s going to do ALL she can to stop him even if it means running for president herself and giving him fits while tearing him apart at every opportunity (politically) even knowing she can’t win to nomination.

Liz Cheney is a real one. Like DJ said there are not many that would throw away their entire career and do the right thing.

Cheney weighs 2024 presidential bid after Wyoming loss;

Rep. Liz Cheney, former President Donald Trump’s most prominent Republican critic, said she’s intent on keeping him out of the Oval Office and may consider a presidential run herself.

Just hours after her stinging defeat in her GOP primary in Wyoming, she said a 2024 campaign “is something I’m thinking about and I’ll make a decision in the coming months.” Cheney broke the news on NBC’s “Today.” She did not mention party affiliation, and there has been speculation she could mount a campaign as an independent.
