Convention Contest:
Democrats Trounce GOP
It’s official. The numbers are in and provide rock-solid proof that the Democratic convention completely trounced the Republican convention.

Politics
According to a CBS News poll of registered voters following both conventions, 46% said they support Hillary Clinton, compared to 39% who back Donald Trump. Although Mrs. Clinton trails Trump among men and white voters who are under-educated, her favorability rating greatly improved after the DNC, particularly among college-educated and female voters.
Interestingly, Mrs. Clinton’s post-convention bounce was in line with the that of Barack Obama’s from 2008 and 2012.
The high favorability number for the Democrats is not surprising when comparing the 2 conventions. The Republican convention was widely panned for being erratic, lackluster, and poorly produced. Promising star-power, the Republicans were only able to present has-been actor Scott Baio, as well as B-list senators and congressmen (the major names simply refused to participate). In contrast, the Democrats boasted professionally produced videos and events from such Hollywood elite as James Cameron, Shonda Rhimes, and others, as well as appearances from A-list celebrities including Paul Simon, Meryl Streep, Alicia Keys, Kareem Abdul-Jabar, Demi Lovato, Eva Longoria, Angela Bassett, Katy Perry, Lenny Kravitz, Lady Gaga, Snoop Dogg and more. Naturally, appearances from President Barack Obama, Vice-President Joe Biden, and First Lady Michelle Obama completely upstaged zero appearances from any of the former Republican president’s, first lady’s, or recent GOP presidential nominees.
Further, the photo-op of a unified Democratic party on stage during the final night, with Hillary Clinton’s and Tim Kaine’s hands raised in the air during an unending balloon drop, was much more magical than the stoic-looking Trump and Pence families standing nearly frozen on stage, as Donald Trump and Mike Pence engaged in an uncomfortable looking handshake.
Politics
Realizing that his convention was a near bust, Donald Trump predictably took to his weapon of choice, with tweets against all of the Democratic convention speakers and what he calls the media’s “biased” coverage of them.
Trump took aim at “Little” Michael Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York City, who Trump said “knows nothing” about him and “wouldn’t get 10% of the vote” if he ran for reelection as mayor. He then lashed out against Gen. John Allen and the military personnel who stood with him to speak against Trump’s readiness and temperament to be Commander-In-Chief, saying the general “failed badly in his fight against ISIS.”
Trump then accused Mrs. Clinton of making up facts during a speech he called a “very average scream!” He rebuked her claims that he couldn’t handle “the rough-and-tumble of a presidential campaign,” then called her speech “an insulting collection of clichés and recycled rhetoric” and “a joke.”
Considering a brand new poll released late last week, it looks like the joke may very well be on “The Donald.”
According to the McClatchy-Marist survey, Mrs. Clinton has opened up a 15-point margin against Donald Trump. The numbers follow Trump’s odd public feud with the Muslim parents of a slain American war hero and then House Speaker Paul Ryan, showing a 48% to 33% national lead for Mrs. Clinton.
A recent NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll shows Mrs. Clinton holding a 9 point edge (47% to 38%), which matches a new CNN/ORC poll showing Mrs. Clinton with a similar 9-point edge over Trump nationally. Surprisingly, even Fox News is reporting that Mrs. Clinton holds a 10 point lead over “The Donald.”
A BEHIND THE SCENES LOOK AT THE DNC:
Regular readers of OK WASSUP! may recall – accept for Nate Silver's analyses, I tend to dismiss polls even polls that favor my candidate. But as polling trends would seem to indicate right now, I am willing to give some credence to the Fox news poll showing Hillary ahead simply because it's FOX news – a cable news network that has spent the past 20 yrs promoting unbridled hatred of Bill and Hillary Clinton, to say nothing of the past 8 years spent hating Pres. Obama. If there's any chance..any chance at all…that Hillary is actually beating Trump in ANY Fox news poll..!?! Well now THAT is quite telling. Re: the Dem convention vs the Repub convention I'm not at all surprised if most people have a more favorable opinion of the Dem convention than the Repub convention. In short: The Repub convention was (as one reader put it) a… Read more »
