2.2 Million People. That sounds a lot different than “15 people and it will go away on its own..”

Americans, who move about, loving their freedoms, and touting their civil liberties, are about to go on a rough ride. And the ride is going to last for months.

It’s time to stay home, people. Just stay home. […]

Meanwhile, in my “red” small rural-ish community, life goes on mostly unchanged. This morning, on my way home from night shift at a homeless shelter, I noticed that the usual group of seniors were meeting at the local coffee shop, the Catholic church was preparing for it’s weekly Tuesday soup dinner, the local breakfast joint was open, the local grocery appeared to be quite crowded. Last night the local bowling alley/bar seemed to be doing a good business, judging by the parking lot. At least the local nursing homes have had the good sense to limit visitors. A very few businesses were making changes- one of the gas stations was open for gas only, no gathering for coffee.

I’m afraid no one here is going to take any of this seriously until someone dies. I’m hoping it’s not me. […]

Italy’s healthcare systems is reportedly on the verge of being totally overwhelmed AND more and more healthcare workers (especially physicians) are also falling ill from the virus, which poses an even bigger challenge.

I look at New York City and the rapid spread of the virus, in that city, and I see a canary in the coal-mine.

I’m thinking – absent a national quarantine (or something close to it) AND doing much much more in increasing the availability of medical tests and other much needed supplies and resources, things will probably get worse, much worse, before they get better.

So I pray and will continue to pray.

I’m a realist. and from what I’m seeing and hearing, I still don’t think most Americans fully understand just what we’re facing here…and that includes cable news in America.

This is a Public. Health. Crisis of Unprecedented magnitude and the glaring LACK of public-health planning, particularity at the federal-level, means that we could be facing a nightmare that we haven’t even imagined.

‘White House Takes New Line After Dire Report on Death Toll’

[Sweeping new federal recommendations announced on Monday for Americans to SHARPLY limit their activities appeared to draw on a dire scientific report warning that, without action by the government and individuals to slow the spread of coronavirus and suppress new cases, 2.2 million people in the United States could die.]

Let that sink in. “…2.2 MILLION people in the United States could die.”

[To curb the epidemic, there would need to be drastic restrictions on work, school and social gatherings for periods of time until a vaccine was available, which could take 18 months, according to the report, compiled by British researchers. They cautioned that such steps carried enormous costs that could also affect people’s health, but concluded they were “the only viable strategy at the current time.” ] – NYTimes, Mar. 17, 2020

That should tell you everything you need to know.
