Dear America: Covid is NOT over yet!
Lifestyle
Apparently, some people are tired of wearing masks every day, tired of social distancing, tired of washing their hands a gazillion times per day, and everything that has come with our abruptly altered lifestyles from more than a year of the coronavirus pandemic.
Apparently, some people have presumed that 93 million Americans (or a mere 28% of the population) being fully vaccinated means the coronavirus has miraculously disappeared — and that we are now free to turn the calendar back to pre-March of 2020 and return to living our former lives as carefree as a bird.
Apparently, some people have convinced themselves that the 95% efficacy rate of the Pfizer vaccine means it’s now impossible to contract the coronavirus and that the leftover 5% chance of ever getting it is meaningless.
However, it’s time to stop kidding ourselves, folks, and time for a double-dose of reality.
Covid is NOT over yet, and it’s high time we all stopped acting as if it is!
Walking the streets of New York City, I can’t believe all the people I see who are maskless. There are those who wear the mask over their mouth while leaving the nose completely exposed (forgetting that their mouth can be closed, but the nose remains permanently open as it expels tiny droplets of air filled with germs). Then there are those who have a mask but wear it on their chin as if it were some sort of decorative accessory to their outfit. Then, of course, there are those who simply refuse to wear a mask at all — either because they foolishly believe the pandemic is over or never believed it in the first place.
In fact, the Covid deniers and those who make a half-baked attempt at “maybe” wearing a mask out of public safety are equally as bad.
While sipping coffee and smoking shisha recently in the Arabian desert, I overheard an American couple telling a French couple that the coronavirus reaction has been “overblown” because “it’s only the flu.”
How uninformed and ignorant, all at the same time.
Scientists have dedicated literal decades of their entire lives to the study of viruses and pandemics. Yet, some yahoo American with a high school diploma is convinced they know better than the experts and that everything they’ve been told about the virus is wrong.
So, here’s the truth, folks. The only way to truly defeat the virus and to get us all back to some sense of normalcy in our lives is to reach herd immunity. The only way to reach herd immunity is for the majority of us to get vaccinated and for us all — in the meantime — to maintain safety protocols (wearing masks, social distancing, etc.) until herd immunity is obtained. Cutting corners now by refusing to wear masks and skipping the vaccine is only setting us back further from our ultimate goal.
So, WAKE UP, AMERICA! Covid is NOT over yet. We can’t “wish” it away but we can take responsible measures to defeat it for good!
.
Sincerely,
A concerned fellow citizen of the world.

“Public health officials have told us that we are in a race between Covid-19 vaccines and the virus. But in order for us to win, we need a much longer track. With a slight decline in new infections—likely the result of a combination of the vaccine rollout and seasonal population immunity— and the advent of spring, there is a natural desire to return to regular business and social life after a brutal and desperate winter. But our public health officials are telling us differently. Theirs is a united message, ‘This is no time to relax!'” – Forbes
Let the church say amen. (I stole that from Truthiz) 🙂
