After a televised hearing that seemed more like a version of THE PEOPLE’S COURT than an actual proceeding, a Charleston, S.C., judge has ruled that Gov. Mark Sanford’s admitted affair with an Argentine woman was enough grounds to grant his wife, Jenny, a divorce from him.
Although it may take the court another 2 weeks to complete the “official” paperwork, the divorce is indeed granted and final. The now “former” Mrs. Sanford said she intends to remain at the family’s Sullivan’s Island home with their four sons and get on with her life. “The dissolution of a 20-year marriage is not a cause for celebration, it’s a sad occasion,” Jenny Sanford said afterward.
Ms. Sanford said her main goal now is to instill character in her children as she raises them as a single mother. “This is the beginning of a new chapter for me and for our children.”
