"An Open Letter To Trump Supporters"

Excerpt:
If this becomes the party of Donald Trump and David Duke, a lot of us are out. […]

Today it's Repub Congressman, Scott Rigell's letter:

"An Open Letter to Virginia Republicans: Trump Victory Catastrophic for our Republican Party"

Excerpt:
Never before have I grabbed a word like catastrophic to make a political point. It’s like pulling a fire alarm; if you do it, there had better be a fire. There is a fire and it’s raging within our Republican party. I am convinced that if Donald Trump becomes our nominee, the harm done to our party would be nothing short of catastrophic. […]

Like Truth said all the racists is his base. He can't go agains them because they are the ones keeping him on top. This was not a surprise at all. Trump is talking out all sides of his mouth, but we know the truth.

In fact, they’re probably welcoming of it! […]

You got that right DJ. And therein lies the main reason Trump feigned ignorance about David Duke and the KKK. He can't disavow Duke or the KKK (not with any real conviction anyway.) while seeking the Repub nomination. Trump knows his base – many…if not most…of his supporters are White supremacists/White seperatists and bigots. Trump is nothing if not absolutely craven and cynical. He knows that speaking out against Duke and others of that ilk would demoralize a significant portion of his voting base.

What does all this mean for the Republican party? It speaks Volumes.

I would posit that the GOP's slow descend into Trumpism began circa 1964 with their embrace Nixon's *Southern Strategy" and thier welcoming of Southern White Dixie-crats and other right-wing White supremacist groups around the country in response to the Civil Rights Movement.

Whatever actual "Conservative* principles the GOP held back then were quickly abandoned in reckless pursuit of votes, money and power. Republican Conservativsim quickly gave way to just Republicanism and now it appears that Republicanism is about to give way to Trumpism.

Today is Super Tuesday. Primaries…and one or two caucuses…are being held across several (mostly Southern) states today,

If the polls are even close to being correct, Trump will win every state but Texas (Cruz's home-state). which means Trump will be the GOP's presumptive presidential nomineee. In other words, he'll become the defacto leader of the Republican party. Which will also mean that the GOP as it's been known since Reagan willl be effectively dead.
