D.C. SNIPER SET TO DIE
John Allen Muhammad, the mastermind behind the notorious 2002 Washington, DC-area sniper attacks, will be put to death by lethal injection next Tuesday, November 10th in Virginia.
The three-week killing spree in October 2002 left 10 dead in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Muhammad and his (then) teenage accomplice, Lee Boyd Malvo, are also suspected of shootings in several other states, including Louisiana and Alabama. For his involvement, Malvo received and is currently serving a life sentence in prison.
Muhammad’s lawyers have asked Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine for clemency. But due to the brutal nature of the crimes this seems to be a long shot. In a desperate last-ditch effort and with time swiftly running out, Muhammad’s lawyers are filing an appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court. But odds are very unlikely they will even hear the case.
