DeSantis Tells Students ‘Take Off Your Masks!’

Spread The Love

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis doesn’t believe in the COVID pandemic, vaccines, or safety precautions such as wearing masks and social distancing. Now, he has proven he doesn’t want anyone else to believe it either.

Current Events
On Wednesday, DeSantis visited the University of South Florida to deliver a speech on funding for cybersecurity education. Several students from Tampa’s Middleton High School were in attendance and were asked to stand behind the governor for optics. In what has become the norm over the past 3 years, all of the students were wearing masks — a move that immediately sent the Republican governor into a tizzy.

As he approached the podium, DeSantis threw an exasperated fit and told the high schoolers “You do not have to wear those masks. I mean, please take them off. Honestly, it’s not doing anything and we’ve gotta stop with this COVID theater.”

He added: “This is ridiculous!”

Upon hearing the admonishment from their governor, a few students actually removed their masks. However, several others ignored his orders and kept their masks on for safety.

After video footage of DeSantis’ words went viral, Hillsborough Schools Superintendent Addison Davis issued a statement, saying the district was “proud” of the students and noted that it is their choice “to protect their health in a way they feel most appropriate.”

“As always, our students should be valued and celebrated. It is a student and parents’ choice to protect their health in a way they feel most appropriate. We are proud of the manner in which our students represented themselves and our school district.”

So, congratulations to those high school teens who had the courage to tune out their governor and follow what they believed to be in their own best interest.

  1. It took me quite awhile to figure out that the general *mindset* of most ignorant and hateful people – especially FAKE alphas – is a mindset that’s shaped by FEAR.

I would posit that that most assuredly is true when it comes to Extremists of every ilk (racists, gun nuts, religious fanatics, right-wing politicians). They are terrified of anything and everything they perceive as “threatening” to them. In this case, it’s wearing a mask.

Wearing a mask for a certain percentage of the American (predominantly white) population disturbs their comfort level. White people aren’t used to having their comfort level disturbed. Wearing a mask reminds them there is something “scary” out there that they CAN’T control. And they simply CANNOT handle that Truth!

    1. Hey Truth you hit it right in the head. Wearing a mask is telling them what to do. And it interferes with their white privlege. It all comes down to a power trip and control like you said.

  2. Mindset: a set of beliefs that shape how you make sense of the world and yourself

Wow! The parents of the kids who kept their mask on should be incredibly proud!

    Hear! Hear! Outstanding!

  4. The way he huffed after telling the kids masks are ridiculous is what I was paying attention to. These folks really are a piece of work.

    1. Lol…you got that right BD.

DeSantis and his kind are like a frightened little children, huffing and puffing and stomping their feet, when people don’t go along with their foolishness ..Lol.

  5. AP:

High School freshman Kevin Brown Jr. defied Gov. Ron DeSantis’ (R-FL) demand to remove a Covid mask during a press event, and spoke out afterward. So did his father.

At a press conference at the University of South Florida Wednesday, DeSantis told masked high school students on stage behind his podium, “You do not have to wear those masks,” and sneered “I mean, please take them off. Honestly, it’s not doing anything. And we gotta stop with this Covid theater.”

He went on to grudgingly add, “So, if you want to wear it, fine. But this is, this is ridiculous.”

Some students removed their masks, some did not. Brown did not comply, and was later removed from the stage.

Two of the kids and their parents spoke out to WFLA reporter Justin Schecker Wednesday night.

Brown said he considered removing his mask because “it’s the governor, he asked us to take it off.”

“But I thought about it, and it’s my right to have my mask on,” Brown said.
His father, Kevin Brown Sr., told Schecker “I would tell [DeSantis] to stop bullying kids,” and that “His mother tells him to wear the mask. I told him it’s his choice, so he made that choice. And the governor has no right to tell no kid or no one who they can or can’t wear a mask. He doesn’t have that right.”

High School senior Eric Marshall did remove his mask following the governor’s demand, and said he did so due to “pressure of an adult figure asking me to do something, and it’s just like, ‘All right.’”

Eric’s mother, Dawn Marshall, was not pleased.
